Freespace2.com--as good as dead
Just decided to browse the 3D ship gallery on Freespace2.com, and guess what? MetaStream has been bought by somebody and the format isn't supported anymore. I also decided to look at the community links; a futile exercise in nostalgia...

Sort of... we had all kinds of unique stuff that nobody else had come up with at the time. However it wasn't really a branded "mod dedicated" FS site, it was just a FS Site. Perhaps the largest part of the mods section was my offshoot - Ikeya. Loads of backgrounds and nebulas and stuff.

That was back in the day when only a few people knew how to mod FS... good times. HLP is much larger though.

well, for a low-selling 3year-old game we have a rather large community, do we not?

We're prolly the biggest FS/FS2 forum/website on the net.

and it's a pity that FS2.com is down :(...maybe :v: is just making room for a FS3.com ;7

Hmmm....that'd be wicked...

*dreams about FS3 and what it might look like*

Keep dreaming kid.  There's a 99.99925% chance it ain't ever gonna happen.

Descent Chronicles was back in the day. Jeez I remember being at R128 when it started and then switching over to PFS way back when.

Really, R128/Ground FreeSpace to me seem like the soul-cousins to HLP when it started. Current HLP is much more like Descent Chronicles was except DC IMHO had a much more snazzy look to it.

DC was famous for its mission archive though, right? I think that this archive is now at VW...
