Thunder, just use Media Player 6.4. Best version of MP there is without the bloat.
I tend to agree with you, as that is the version I use,
but:
I took a DivX movie over to a friends' to watch, and he had a really old computer. Not quite sure exactly what, but probably in the P200 range. Needless to say, it wasn't able to play the movie (copied to HD first) smoothly enough to watch in MP v6.4. So I figured what the heck, let's try WMP7 - it's installed and all. Well, no one was more surprised than I to discover that WMP7 was able to play the movie with enough of a sembalance of smoothness that it was watchable!
Now, since I'm not all that pressed for DivX performance on my current computer, I'm still avoiding adding the crash-prone WMP7 into my nice clean Win2k installation - v6.4 works fine for me. But still, WMP7 surprised me quite a bit!
