Is there a limit to the size of the FS1 ships table?  I seem to have hit a limit of 75 when adding my own ships.  Is there any way to get around this?  I've tried cleaning the ships table of comments and other extraneous stuff, but to no avail.

Limit of 380k

You can use one of the source code .exe files which has a higher limit on the number of mods allowed.

Source code is for fs2, not fs1. I think the table limits are the same on both games. Also, I think there is a limit on entries, something like 75.

I don`t read when I`m in a hurry. I was just "using the force" that time :D

Anyway the advice about FS2 is mostly valid for FS1.

Ok it's fs2 but I got the port and noticed something....

When doing the asteroid mission there is a different POF... but no pof file.  I can collide with them in game... can't in a fred mission. they can be destroyed with primaries... in fs2 they can only be killed with secondaries...What's going on?

How can I make asteroids in FS2 act like fs1?

How is the port able to make this happen when it has nothing in the vp to enable this??????? Big mystery to me , pls help! A big mission depends on aseroids acting normal.

Is this a mission in the port or one of your own? You probably just have too many objects (ships, asteroids, laser shots, etc.) in that particular mission, which causes the game to mess up and disregard collisions.

Do you mean the mission when you and Alpha 2 guide the Galatea through the asteroid field to Ribos?

Okay, I did some fiddling and found out a few things.  I was adding some ships to the regular FS1 ships.tbl for my new campaign - mostly Orions with new nameplates, but some other surprises too.  When I tried to run FreeSpace with the new table, missions would start loading but then would just quit and dump me back into Windows with no explanation.  I whipped up a program to clean the table file of comments and such, and got the size down to below the size of the original ships.tbl, but the same thing happened.

So then I started counting ships using my program.  The original ships.tbl had 67 ships, and my new tbl had 78.  By removing some ships I didn't need (such as GTFR Poseidon#2 and GTSC Faustus#2) I got the number of entries down to 74.  Now the table works fine.  I assume that there is indeed a hard limit of 75 entries for the table.

Unfortunately, now my ships table is no longer compatible with the main campaign.  Oh well... :blah:

 
As a matter of fact I had to hand place over 340 asteroids to hide the zentreadi battleship for the Robotech episode/mission Blind Game. (5 hours. then had to do it twice more from scrath cause if a table error)...

  See the SDF-1 had its Radar tower obliterated so until it can be rebuilt their sensors are for crap! Captain Goval orders Lisa hayes to take a Cat's Eye recon plane out for a stroll around the block. Little do they know that this is what the aliens intended. Alpha wing flys intercept in this mission while Vermillion Wing guards the Cat's Eye (both wings are part of Skull Squadron). You get jumped, Vermillion gets itchy for a fight, Lisa orders them to engage, and then in the confusion the Cat's Eye gets nabbed and while Alpha is still engaging the decoy forces Vermilion pursues the abductors into the battleship... Moments l8tr the battleship warps out just as Alpha arrvies on the other side of the Asteroid field holding the bag...(what just happened!!!!) The best part is that I used the actual voice captures from that episode. :)

I screwed up initially and ended up with 340 enemy veritechs out for my A$$!!!!!!! What a furball that was, and my system DIDN'T Crash!!!!!! :cool:

Of course I hadn't a chance but it was fun taking out as many as possible (plus the advantage that it was everyone for him/herself, they were attacking each other as well as the SDF forces. The first Robotech civil war???)

You can add one or two more ship to the FS1 (with ST) table before the game crashes. I could add a science-cruiser varient and bomber varient and it works fine.

Why not do it the Freespace way, set it to invisible to sensors until you get a certain distance away. You could have an inner box to hold the ship and have a dense asteroid field.
