Old (New) Invader Model
I don't really have any plans on finishing this off, but it's supposed to be an Invader class jumpship from the BattleTech universe Currently it's LOD0 with some quickly slapped on textures, no submodels, systems, weapons etc. It's been sitting on my  hard drive for weeks now, so I figured I'd post some ingame pics anyway, and see if it appeals to anyone.

Out of interest, I'm sitting in the little fighter reduced to a speck of elongated white above the narrow section in the middle.

That's a nice ship. I might chop the parachute bit off but it's still nice. :) What is that bit for anyway?

It looks like a solar sail.  A solar sail would be able to move a ship at high speeds(don't know the number).  quite a nifty thing.  Best of all there is no fuel, saving weight.  Nice model!

I'm with Venom on this one. That's a pretty fine model you got there. :)

Have you considered (and this is silly) a sigil of some sort to go across the solar sail?

Thor: a solar sail can, theoretically get you up to a large fraction of the speed of light--given enough time. The momentum imparted by the solar wind is not what one would call heavy. Ideally you would use a tightly focused, high energy laser.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

Remove nothing if you want a solar sail craft or remove it and make it a standard destroyer but the ship is definately worth finishing.

the sail needs better texturing.

Reminds me of Count Dooku's ships from AOTC.

In the Battletech univers ships jumps through space/time...that why they are called Jumpships.
What you thing are sails are Solar-sails collecting energy for the next jump.
Depending on the typ of the sun it normaly needs 4-14 days to collect enough energy to jump to the next sun.
The KF-engine could also be powerd by reactors, but if you load the KF-engine to fast you could jumpout into normal space somewere else then you want it.
.......I will stop talking about the KF-engine here, cause there are more things to tell about jumping, but I think I have explained the need of the solar-sails.

So keep the sails right where they are. Maybe try a texture like the solarpannel from Babylon 5.
For everything else a quite good model. I still wait until someone make a BT-Mod for FS2 including a McCenna Warships or one of this new Ghost Bear Jumpships.

When WC is finished maybe you might want to help out then, I can't say more.... then again I just did 'Doh!'

Actually I figure for a MW TC use FS2 for the space and atmosphere battles and then switch to MW3 or 4 for the land battles, cause when it comes right down to it you can't beat teh source for a true planetary assault.

 HOWEVER...

When a certain thingy is done that capability will be available for all future ground mods. Meaning I will have AT-AT's hunting down rebel scum on Hoth and Archers lying in wait for them (sneaky rebels, where did they get mechs from?) LOL... May not look the greatest, but gameplay is more important then true graphic exactness to me!

We will see if I can help, but a BT Mod would be great.

Thanks for the comments, they have been most encouraging :)

For the reasons gevatter Lars mentioned, the sail stays. It's a crucial part of this vessel, though there are others that don't have sails and look like regular warships.

The original intent was to create an AeroTech mod (no mechs and ground stuff, just the spacecraft - Warships, Jumpships, Dropships), and I've got maybe half a dozen fighters and one or two larger vessels in various stages of completion from over the past 6 months. Unfortunately I am involved with other non-Freespace projects, so I haven't had the opportunity to jump very far into FS2 modding, and probably won't be able to carry the planned mod into fruition, at least not alone. But I will see if I can put some more effort into this model, like some proper texturing, submodels, weapons etc. and produce something more presentable.

Sail should stay but also should have an un-sailed one... Reasoning, they don't have it out when they jump in system, and retract it when they go to jump out. Don't know the specifics but I've seen pics of the Jumpships without their sails out in action so think of the mission possibilities.

BTW When ShadowWolf gets back (hopefully) he should be a point of contact about getting nvolved with a BT TC. I would love to do it but as an overall addtion to the Multi-verse folder I put together from all mods. We both like BT and I'm sure when Combat Federation is done (heavily BT influenced) He might be able to cajole his team into doing Battle Tech up right. I'd love to do some missions for it (as a designer/fredder, the extent of my skill).
