GTD Damocles - My best EVER!

Following the importance of the Special Opeations Command during the Second Shivan war, it was decided that the SOC should be enabled to play a more prominent role in future conflicts.  As a result, an elite battlegroup, the SOF (Special Operations Fleet) was created.  The flagship of the SOF is the GTD Damocles, the most advanced Terran warship ever created

The Damocles has been developed over 5 years on intensive R&D.  Capable of holding 10 fighter wings, and 2 platoons of Marines, the Damocles has been designed for maximum survivability in hostile situations.

The Damocles uses a unique modular internal design, which allows living space, cargo areas and the fighter bay to be altered for other use.  This allows the Damocles to be outfitted with powerful beam weapons - at a loss of fighter complement - for dangerous engagements

   

90% of textures done (barring nameplate), 2400 polys   ! - but it runs fine in FS2   , so I'll use the LODs to reduce the impact..  However, it's not advisable to use them in groups   - hence the one of a kind description.

there are 2 docking bays - the main landing pad is for a Special Ops transport I'm building for it.

Unfortunately, I had to cut down on the turret debris (and turrets) to get it down to this poly count, so it only has 17 turrets.

the hull itself is only 780 polys, which shows the amount of detail in the turret / debris - particularly the missile launchers

That is one good looking ship! It kinda looks like both Starship Troopers (the engines) and Space Above and Beyond (the landing pad).

heehee.. someone noticed then.  It started off life as a mod of the Roger Young, but I decided I couldn't get it right without the polycount skyrocketing.

I think I'm going to replace some of the turrets with lower poly versions, to try and get the polycount down to around 1800-2000-ish and also to add another 8/9 turrets.

nah, this one is really neat, but I'm not sure about the red and yellow stripes. Otherwise, even with that polycount, maybe you could add some more turrets? Simply polyreduce the other ones ( only the beams if you don't want to modify the missile ones, that will do it). Coz 17 turrets, that's not much... My gaia which is just a basic destroyer gots almost 80, for about the same polycount than yours (don't remember if it includes lods and debrios tho).

Awesome looking ship Aldo!  However I must agree with the previous posts, the stripes need to go.  Kinda breaks the whole image consistency of the ship.

Thats just a fantastic texturing job, and a verra spiffy ship to boot. I agree that it needs more turrets, my CRUISER has 17 turrets and even a Diemos has 20. A destroyer should have at least 30 or so just to have adequate defensive coverage, otherwise it'll be an easy mark for bombers.
If it aint broke, break it!

New version (turrets removed) - 1576 polys
(4 turrets remain)

New reduced turrets - 27 poly each

So I reckon i can add about 20 turrets.  I won't need as many as 30, as there will be no laser turrets used - just flak and AAAf for fighter defense.

Red stripes are the fighterbay path... this is the actual texture;
         

This looks ok on the model ingame, so I'm keeping it

Sweeet...This is where normally I'd put in a drool smiley or the jaw-drop one, but I'm too lazy right now to dig up the URLs for either.   Absolutely amazing work! The only thing that worries me is the differential in texture detail in certain areas- for example, your landing strip is super-high detail, but the hull around the engines covers a lot more area with the same size texture map...I dunno, as long as it looks alright in the game!

Umm... Aldo? I hate to be the one to say it, but Damocles was taken by the GTCv Damocles mod... basically an Iceni with the standard supert maps (the colossus ones).

The model itself is really good.   Those missile launchers are awesome, I think. Really need some cool missiles to go along with them. There should be some lying around though...

Bah... reskins shouldn't count. I think aldo dedicated much more work in his Damocles than the guy that changed the maps on the Iceni, even if it looks cool. (Ok, maybe I say that only coz everytime I pick a name, someone comes and says: hep! already taken!   )
