1. Try updating your video card drivers. I assume you have a D3D compatable card and Direct X.
2. Try changing the Windows color depth.
3. Quit all other programs you can quit. (Some programs don't play well with others.)
4. If you aren't already, try opening the VP file itself and selecting models in that.
5. Whenever it crashes, rebooting may help make sure that crash has no lingering effects that will cause it to crash again.
6. Try and post the actual GPF message you are getting, if you're getting one, or whatever error message you do get. The error messages might be hidden in a file called faultlog.txt or something like that.
7. Try extracting a file and opening it in PCS instead. (Or POFView if you have it.)
8. Get something nice and cool to drink and relax a moment 'cause by now you've gotta be annoyed.
