Why does Model View 32 crash every time I try to view a pof?

Does it not like XP? Or is might there be another problem?

It works fine on XP, probably you have a corrupted file with modelview, or your models just suck.

1. Try updating your video card drivers. I assume you have a D3D compatable card and Direct X.
2. Try changing the Windows color depth.
3. Quit all other programs you can quit. (Some programs don't play well with others.)
4. If you aren't already, try opening the VP file itself and selecting models in that.
5. Whenever it crashes, rebooting may help make sure that crash has no lingering effects that will cause it to crash again.
6. Try and post the actual GPF message you are getting, if you're getting one, or whatever error message you do get. The error messages might be hidden in a file called faultlog.txt or something like that.
7. Try extracting a file and opening it in PCS instead. (Or POFView if you have it.)
8. Get something nice and cool to drink and relax a moment 'cause by now you've gotta be annoyed. :)
9. Um. Hmm. I ran out of things for you to try, hopefully one of the above will help. :)

Ahh, good old POFView! :D

I remember my VERY early days, and the first time I opened VPView32.......it was the beginning of the end! :D

The POFView I'm talking about is old, but not to us. It's part of the FS2 source code and renders models using the same code that FRED2 uses, unlike non-:v: programs that would have been built without the knowledge of the actual graphics code. :)

Is POFview at the HPL main page too? Or do I have to hunt for it?

It is in the Freespace2_Public source code release. Someone compiled it (though as a debug version) and it's available here:
http://www.geocities.com/vasudanad/Pofview.zip
(May need to copy and paste.) You will need the Visual C++ 6 Debug runtime DLLs though. If someone would compile a release version of it then that would fix the DLL thing. :)

If I could tell you, I would. But I uninstalled VC++ 4, can't find the CD now, and it's not 6 anyways so I'm not really sure. I vaguely recall seeing a drop down box on the main window that I think let you switch from one to the other, but I'm not sure. It ought to be in some sort of drop down box in a window somewhere though. Not much help is that? :) I'm not entirely sure if your VC++ can do release builds. (For that matter I don't know what version you have or what versions you need to do release builds.) I've been a Borland user too long to have gotten into MSVC. :)
