Using Star Trek Bridge Commander for FS2
I was about to delete it when I decided to look around teh data folders... Guess what? They use TGA's for effects. and .nif's for ships models. can these models be converted to .pofs? can the TGA's be converted to PCX's and used for weapons or textures??? The backgrounds are cool (Especially the galaxies)... I would like to use some in FS2... would using some of these files help those thinking of a star trek mod? Or should I just go ahead and delete them?

I dont have bridge commander, but if the BG's / Nebs / tex's are in an editable image format then they can be used in FS2, as for models i dont have a danny / scooby (clue) but im sure the FS2 community has enough inginuity to convert BC models to FS2 or vice versa, imagine that, GUNNERY CONTROL FIRE THE AQUITAINES MAIN GUNS AT THAT FERENGI !!

I don't know why, but I never have been able to see the FS universe and the ST universe interacting in any way.  I mean, the few times you see fighters in ST they get waxed way-too-quickly by fast-targeting, accurate, and very powerful phasor fire.  And there is the whole thing about ship types and tech bases; ST uses warp theory, FS subspace; ST relies heavily on shields, FS uses mainly tough hull plating; ST ships are usually Uber-powerful with a max crew of a little over a thousand, FS has ships that can't do crap that are crewed by 30,000 (ok, so maybe a bad example, but still...)  ST ships are also MUCH smaller for their capabilities than the average FS ship (I think the Enterprise-E is just over 800m long; the Aquitane is above 2,000)  But for a Bridge Commander TC, the FS universe would work quite well I'd think.

I would like to see some envisionments of different capship bridges, not just Terran either Vas, and Shiv would be quite an experience to try and comprehend. I just like the idea of commanding a two thousand metre long three quarter million tonne thing, and flicking the kamikaze tag,........

There appear to be plug-ins for 3DSMax by Taldren. I'm not entirely sure where to get them, and can't use them anyways. There are sites with Star Trek 3D models in various formats as well. (I found a site with .max format models, which again I can't use.) Most of the ships are probably too high poly from the images I've seen to work right in FS2 without a lot of modification. But then I haven't opened any so I can't tell.

IrFanView allows you to batch convert TGAs to PCXs, or any other format you want. Get it HERE.

Targa files can be opened and saved by many programs. Including Gimp and Photoshop type programs. :)

Is it really that simple?
Take the TGA and convert to a 256 PCX and plug it in to the effects folder and edit the stars table right???

Or am I missing something?

BTW I didn't mean stop at there. Look at Klingon Academy! They got some awesome mods from TOS (D17 cruisers) and current (like prometheus timeship1) someone to a ST-TC all eras all races/ships!

As for co-existing.... Yeah it doesn't make sense, but this is for fun. Try to make it as equal as possible but be true to the sources.

I'm gonna look through some other programs I have for pics, waves, and stuff that might come in useful for FS2..

It's often surprising how often you can use files/tools for one program with another program. For example, as an experiment I used D3Edit (the Descent 3 level editor) to make a simple model and managed to convert it to a POF. (The conversion process was a bit convulted, it needed to be retextured, and it ended up off center, but it actually did work.)

I'm not sure, but I think that the PCX needs to be 256x256 as well.
I won't bet  on it though.

I just got over major crash and the w32.kwbot.worm.... I bought a 120 gig drive and it got infected from the old one! I ended up burning off as much as I could just in case and then formatting bother drives (69 gig and 120 gig) the 40 gig external was safe (all FS2 stuff! got lucky...) :)

I'll let you know if I get progress done with converting new background stuff for atmosphere (background galaxies and what not)... Wish me luck! l8tr... and thanks about reminding me 256x256...

I got it to work (yah!) ;7  major accomplishment (for me!!!) Most of you are probably like  :blah: :o :p   but now I am really fired up! I figured that new models and storyline would help, but to get the feel of not normal FS2 backgrounds have to be different (like bab5 did). This should help a lot!

So like set the autopilot for 4 light years and buy your superbowl tickets in advance!!!
