A WIP - My own language
Well its a form of art isn't it? I don't know if it makes a whole lot of sense yet, but ive just scratched the surface. Right now its just dealing with grammer:

Language of the Ancients
Lvi Ciusoa-sYhsia

The Ancient's language is different then our own in many different ways, so it is neccesary to adapt to a new form of grammer. For example, as seen above, the word "Ancients" is replaced by what the Ancient's actually call themselves, the "sYhsia". Ciusoa rougly translates to language, but expands to the global term "speaking". Lvi is a linking word, used before a linked set of words. In english, we put the actual linking word between words, for example, this and that. The "and" connects this, that. The Lvi initiates the link, then the required words are linked together using a dash (-). This allows multiple words to be linked it series, in english we could go this, this and that. In Ancients it would be Lvi sia-sia-aops'v. More details will be discussed later. There are no acronymes in Ancient's, instead, a generalization is formed, and preceeded by PraS. For example, SJ Sathanas, would be broken down into Shivan vessel Sathanas. In ancient's it would be PraS Kaiufo Tr'a Deiso. Generalization can be useful in other situations, but the preceeding word is changed accordingly. For example, cat and dog are both animals, so this can be broadly catagorized when the physical examples of "cat" and "dog" are irrelvent. So in Ancient's it would be PrAs fisoaU. As you probably have noted, capitalization is highly relevent. PraS and PrAs are two different words, and mean two different things, but belong to the same idea. In fact, when describing the words in Ancients, we could generalize them, they are both the same string of characters, ignoring case (PrAs Lvi lkus-faimz).

Words that have multiple meanings that are just amplifications or downsizing of the core word are expressed as compounds seperated by commas (,). For example, if something is unpleasent, that is just downsizing hate. vissas is used to increase the meaning of a word, and isovus is used to decrease the meaning. The severity of the increase or decrease of the word is expressed as the amount of letters that are capitalized in the modifier. For example, unpleasent would be expressed as ISOVus,cau. Plural words are expressed as how many objects the word is actually refering to. An unknown, or infinite amount is simply expressed by adding si' to the start of the word. If a direct amount is refered to, the amount is added after the si. For example, talking about three cats would be siao'Fisvusa, but just talking about cats would be si'Fisvusa. This would not be correct: Gavao si'Fisvusa, as it adds unneccesary words, but would mean "three cats" in a direct transformation to english. As you can see in that last example however, Gav was added to the word three. This is because the word has become seperated from its core function, and therefor Gav has been added to show independence. So potentially, saying "three threes" would result in aosi'Gavao.

Extremely interesting.  I'd be most interested to see a full set of  paradigms and grammatical structures for your creation, vadar. :)

I started making my own language once, but then academic work started piling up and it fell to the wayside.
Sesqu... Sesqui... what?

Hope that'll evolve to a fully usable/speakable language, that'll be cool :D By the way, how do you think up the words and vocabularly of your language? pattern? random?

I'm currently in the process of making a language but can't think up an effective linguistical system thingy...

Check out this site. It might help you with developing full scale, logical syntax and mechanics for an artificial language. There's also a couple of newsgroups dedicated to artificial languages made for fun.

I dropped off after the second sentence. Can you give it to me in movie form? And include a car chase and some sex scenes? Thanks.

*made up a vague language with it's own semaphore (sp?) based alphabet*

Each letter was composed of two squares (one stacked on top of the other), and in each square there was a diagonal line running from either top-left to bottom-right or top-right to bottom-left, then either the top or bottom section of each square was coloured black and the other white. Thus, it had 16 letters. I then assigned each square type a code. In each square there are 4 possible ways to do it (left-right or right-left then top of bottom coloured). So I assigned the top square types the numbers 1 through 4 and the bottom square types the letters a to d, thus each whole letter in the alphabet has a code ala 1a, 4c etc etc. I then assigned each code to a letter in the english alphabet so i could more easily write out the words without having to draw out thousands of tiny squares and using the little code-to-letter table thingy, I could easily convert them back. I got as far as defining the more common words such as 'the' 'he' 'we' etc and got stuck because I was unable to find a font program to make the finished alphabet so I could write with it without having to draw several thousand little squares and suck dry every pen in my house.

My name is an0n, and I have a problem.

Font Creator Program

That's what I used to make the Freespace Font. It's a 30-day trial and XP has some problems with it, but otherwise it's very good.

Oh, and an0n: You have way too much free time on your hands.
