to be honest, not sure which forum to post this in.... but this is the busiest FS one, so sod it.....

We seem to have quite a lot of 'super-udper massive' campaigns at the mo, all of which are quite far from completion... and there's not much new to play. (Can only think of LM and Goobers campaign offhand - arguably the fSPort)

IMO, i think we need more 'mini'-campaigns.  Ala short 5-10 mission ones, a few little mods and a smidgen of extras.

Why? - a/ they get finished reasonably fast
b/ The bigguns take ages, so no-one has anything to play.... and often the fREDers are kept idle ;)
c/ Relatively easy to plan out, you have a bit more freedom with the storyline because people aren't expecting an 'epic'.
d/  Nice and easy to DL.  Small, like.

Thoughts?

uh... smidgen? :wtf:
oh, yes, BTW, december brings you the 13-mission LM Release 3, which kinda fits Aldo's profile (well, unless smidgen mean little). It has 13 missions, a... well, compelling but not too epic (e.g. no Colossus vs. Sathanas) storyline, one or two mods, but a ****load of extras (full voice acting, CBs, Cutscenes, you name it). after that we'll get back to a few releases of 3-5 missions.

Now, that I've finished p1mping, yes of course we do.

Silly Merry Can. Of course smidgen means little. Anyway, linguistics aside, I completely agree Aldo - minicamps are easier to do and fun to play, but by definition they tend to be a little short (dur I know, but bear with me here). They just can not hold attention for long enough.

That said, it probably won't stop me from doing a side project - well, planning one anyway, but I'm already spread sort of thin (3 Camps may not sound like a lot, but it's enough for me) so, m,eh I dunno.

But yeah, minicamps rock.

Well, the Aeos Affair was fairly short and that seemed to work well. Decent story line and missions that kept me busy for ages. So I agree, we need some smaller ones as well as the big ones.

The demo for the TVWP, the Unification War. Is planned on release in late November at the latest. It will be around 5 to 10 missions long. BUt it is a big download to get the MOD. Sorry guys.

Well, Rise Of GCA Chapter 1 is near completion, and while the 6 missions released won't reveal much about the plot, they are pretty fun.

When I get TMA finished I`ll probably do a satallite campaign based on it. 3-4 missions or so.

No matter what campaign you`re doing there are always a couple of ideas that you don`t manage to shoehorn into the main campaign, or a few plot points that would be more easily explained from another perspective.

Sometimes you can make a smaller campaign based on them.

I think PI can be considered a mini-campaign at 15 missions. There are a few mods but they are mostly for the purpose of play balance and nothing really major, the storyline is interesting enough I guess but not really a bigtime epic; not too many extra "bells and whistles," but instead enjoyable, top-quality missions are the main objective. ;7 I really like these types of projects also and certainly agree that we should have more of them, basically for the same reasons.

as soon as we will have enough ships we will set up few minicampaigns, i was thinking about one about attack at hoth that has never been really covered by swsimulators and possibly one about bespin and a death star attack, if we manage to recreate bespin planet and death star at an acceptable level. Galactic emperor also i think was planning about something similar
for minicampaigns i mean not more of 4-5 missions
they will play as a demo for our mod until we will have enough room to build something bigger

Think when does a novella become a novel and you`ll have your answer :D

Mine pretty much matches that, except it's going to be a bit longer and have a bit more mods..but nothing absolutely crazy like Inferno.

Oops, sorry - I just assume everyone who doesn't get English Slang (much of which got transferred here) is American. It's a pre programmed response, nothing I can do about it :p.

Anyway, on what defines a minicamp, I think it has to do with more than the number of missions. A minicamp should, in my opinion

 - Have less than or equal to ten missions
 - Have less than or equal to 2 new (newly created mod specific, non downloadable) models
 - Have less than or equal to a three person staff (Not including Beta Testers)
 - Generally not be hosted anywhere, but this is kind of iffy
 - Not be overly advertised (at least, not until it's done)

But that's not exacly a hard and fast list. You can generally tell by looking around at the info about the camp.

Um... I'd say the only difference is ;

Mini campaign - fairly simple story, normally set over a short time period and local area.
Full campaign - much more complex story, set over a big area.
