Well, if the rumours are true then it'll be launched tomorrow, but cards will probably not be available in time for x-mas. Like Kazashi said, you're more likely to find cards in store in mid-january sometime.

The NV30 aka GeForceFX should be officially announced at Comdex on the 18th Nov. US time. IIRC the card will be available for sale on 18th Jan, give or take a few days, at a price of US$360+. nVidia are claiming a 30% performance increase over the R9700 Pro, but that's marketing for you.

Speaking of marketing, I'd probably have more respect for the Parhelia if they hadn't marketed it like they did. Official sources stated (in Matrox support forums for example) that the Parhelia would outperform the GF4 Ti4600 in the 3D market - when the card finally made it to the review benches and failed to perform as such, everyone went back to stating that it was a card for "professional" users. It will still run games fine, probably about as well as the targeted users would want - not everyone wants GF4 performance (like me, yet...), and pure gamers make up the vocal minority of the video market.

Ye olde internet rumour has that ATI are offering a trade in on your old Radeon - you buy a 9000 off of them, then when you get it and you've decided you like it you send them your old card and they give you cash back.

Scam or plan?

I haven't heard of this, but I'll ask one of the ATI fanboys on my icq list. ;)

btw, nVidia did something similar with 3DFX cards IIRC.

Ok, for non-technical people like me, what does that 2/4x AGP mean, how does it affect it, and now you have me worried incase my motherboard can't take an NV30. So how do I know if it can.

Radeon 9700 and GFFX (NV30) are AGP 2x, 4x and 8x compatible.

As I understand it, there is a only a marginal gain with AGP 8x over AGP 4x.

My systems 4x and I'm not upgrading the mobo, just to run a gfx card at 8x.

AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port):
AGP is an expansion bus made by Intel, specifically for the videocard. It works independent of the PCI bus (which runs at 33Mhz, or PCI2.1 at 66Mhz) and runs at 66Mhz with mode 1X. Another mode refers to the speed of the bus, 2X means 2X66Mhz = 133Mhz. Sidebanding means that your Videocard can write and read textures to/from your main memory.
