mmh? there was virtually no unit limit with C&C. I tell you I've has some huge armies.
And for the 230 units... I gather 150 of them were useless? I prefer a few useful units to a lot of useless ones. And yeah Joe Kucan is a neat bad guy :D

Yes he does  I love that dude's portrayal of Kane :D

And for the record, I worship the disk clusters Tiberian Sun resides on. I love the gritty sci-fi feel - you can really see the world going that way, Tiberium or not. People have complained about the lack of proper tanks (among other things), but I say titans and tick-tanks all the way! Go Mammoth mkII, w00+! And of course, you've got to love those Orcas... very Aliens dropship, I feel

I'd like to love RA2, but I just can't - the massive, cartoony buildings and vehicles plain don't do it for me. And that Yuri fellow is funnier than he is credible as a baddie. And all that psychich rubbish? Bah, I'd rather play the first RA (even though I couldn't be arsed to do that last bit in the Russian bunker). Using psychic powers just muffs up what is other wise an attempt a failry modern war sim - for me, tanks and artillery just don't sit happily alongside the likes of Yuri and his boys.

[EDIT] Almost forgot - to answer your question Petrach, C&C all the way, though you'll prolly be looking at waiting for Generals I'd imagine, and you'd hate to have to but a game that doesn't carry Diamond Geezer's  of approval, I'm sure.

When I play C&C I never see to be able to get enough resources to build an army of similar size to those I can build up in TA.

As for units: for me there were very few TA units which I didn't use or found useless. Okay the mobile artilery were pretty useless.

I might also like TA simiply because I played it first before C&C. I am a late comer to the PC market.

Total Annihiliation or C&C?
Is this comparing the first C&C only or the entire series as a whole? If it's the latter, then the choice is easy (TA), but if the former, it is hard to say as the comparison is between two games of different "eras." As I said, although TA is more modern and therefore more advanced with all the extras and is overall a very solid game, I was completely addicted to C&C back in 1995 and have probably logged double the time with it.

TA fan made MODs are really good. I know an awesome site wheer they can be found. Just give me some time to check for it.

Total Annihiliation or C&C?
Said site used to be www.tauniverse.com. It is well and truly down the toilet now though - if you want large collections of mods, try ultimate-strategy.com. I know the guy who wrote it. :)

Oh, and TA forever! C&C is no longer fit to be called a RTS game.

Sid.

Total Annihiliation or C&C?
TA rulez for sheer potential, although the ever-important storyline was non-existant. And surprisingly enough, I just reinstalled the original C&C (Tib. Dawn) on my machine and am playing through it again in all its 320x240 resolution glory - dang, that was a good game! My main complaint was the complete lack of command/build queueing - you have to tell each soldier individually to enter an APC, or each vehicle individually to get repaired at the repair pad... but for a game made in '95, that's really nitpicking. :p

The one thing that's really bothered me about the TA community add-ons has been those recreating a space-universe, such as Star Wars, Trek, etc - it's a ground/air/sea-based game, not outer space! Yeah, with the glimpses of SW Ep. II's ground combat vehicles, a cool total conversion could be made, but please! Leave the Star Destroyers out of TA! :doubt: ;)

I need to play through C&C yet again sometimes, if only for the nostalgia. I am an old games nut anyway. :D However, it has an extremely impressive storyline that is still unmatched in the RTS world in my opinion.

By the way, there is a bit of an alternate ending for GDI; if you destroy the enemy temple with an ion cannon, you get to see it. And then the Nod ending has to be one of the best ever, since you can choose which big landmark to lay waste to. :D

As for the space mods, all I can say is :wtf:. I have not played the SW mods, but the Final Frontier one is easily the best TA mod out there in my opinion.

On a side note, has anyone seen the Nod ending for C&C: Tiberian Sun? Could you tell me what happens there? I never got to see it because the movie always freezes right as the missile is about to launch...

The missile launches...I forget what happens right after that...but ultimately it detonates and the Earth starts glowing a nasty color of green (seen from space).

I just finished playing through the GDI side in Tib Dawn - that game still rocks! Ok, so some of the acting in the cutscenes is really corny, but the game simply rules!

Agreed.  Starcraft has a story as well, but it's a bit cheesier (well, some may argue it's a lot cheesier)

Didn't complete Starcraft, as I was only able to play it on base during the army - never actually went out and bought it. But from what I saw, the coolness factor was definitely increased just by having 3 completely disparte sides as opposed to 2.

yeah, that's what of the things I liked most: having a bunch of abrams tanks going after nod obelisks or stealth tanks, mixing up real and scifi units was a great idea, and perfectly achieved.
