Ok. First, check out that you have made a primary connection to the network. Then, there are two different lines in the search bar so make sure that you don't type the movie title to the first line. Still having problems?

That sounds exactly like my copy... :(

However, the topic seems to have drifted somwwhat - can anyone think why Kazaa should be eating my processor cycles like it is?

Thanks for the advice Ten, I'll re-install and give it another go but have been having trouble persuading it to make a direct connection... I'm on a router on a network (though this computer will be the only one using the software).

Sorry to get OT diamond, I can't for the life of me think why your computer would be suffering so because of Kazaa (you're entirely sure it's Kazaa... right?) I've never had any problem like it. As a rule of thumb I don't share any files and specify not to function as a supernode... but I don't see how being any different would affect things. Perhaps you should try Kazaa Lite, making sure you wipe all aspects of Kazaa first (use AdAware..worked for me).

Best of luck...

Actually those two fields are interchangeable. Not really sure why they bothered with two of them. I only ever use the top one.

For reasons unknown, Kazaa seems to be gobbling up my processor cycles. I had v1.72 running just fine, then when v2 came out I installed that (having made sure the old version was completely removed first, natch). When I ran it, I noticed my PC was suddenly uber slow, so I checked the processes list only to notice that Kazza.exe was eating over 90% of my processor. So, I uninstalled v2 and put v1.72 back on, but now the old version was doing that same thing. So I stuck v2 back on (for the sheer hell of it), but still no joy. It seems to start low and build up, from around 40% to between 85-98% of my processor's resources. Most disconcerting, I can tell you.

Suggestions and/or links, anybody?

Options> Advanced > uncheck "optimal bandwidth use when computer is idle". (wich is almost all the time. It also counts doing nothing for a second as idle)

And:

Options> advanced > set "maximum bandwidth in kilobytes to be used for transferring files to other Kazaa (lite) members" to 128 TOPS for 500 Mhz or less processors and 512 for 500+ Mhz Processors.

This should help a bit.

This doesn't actually matter. The primary connection can be forced from the options tab. And make sure you turn on auto-find sources (right click on the download).

Thanks Tiara, but I already tried that... I only look stupid

Well, I just finished formatting me drive and re-Windowzing it, so I'm off to test a 100% guarenteed fresh version of Kazaa Lite.

And no, I didn't format just to try and fix Kazaa... er... nope... :nervous:

[EDIT] Seems to be working properly now...

Grab yourself a copy of Ad-Aware and Ref Update.  Install both, and run Refupdate to get the latest signature file for Ad-Aware.  Then run a scan.  You'd be suprised what you find, even after a fresh format.

And I don't care. My computer's royally boned anyway.
