Inspired by diamondgeezer and our recent ICQ conversation, I present the newest campaign concept. I say concept cause without any interest it'll fold like superman on laundry day. :nervous:

FREESPACE: DARK STAR

The year is 2143. Space travel is still rudimentry and war is a much deadlier affair for pilots. Humans have yet to have left the cradle of Sol, and civil war is on the horizon. A war that could make or break the human race.

Features:
-"Antique" warships and fighters
-Lack of shields (countermeasures use a must)
-A real "early years" feel to the technology and designs
-See the events that reveal a truly dark side to the predecessors of the GTA
-Reinforcements and re-supplying are things you'll learn to cherish more then you ever have

Need:
-Hosting (aheh heh heh I'll get on that paper work soon :nervous: )
-Modelers (we got alot of ships needed here and some creative designing for that "old style" feeling)
-FREDers
-Table Editors
-Voice Actors (eventually)

but back on topic. The problem with supposid "space wars" in that era according to many sources in which i cant remember, battles where fought between large ships, and fighters were not introduced until later on. Only once things like turbolasers and other large weapons were introduced that fighters became useful, for they were able to evade fire while still causing significant damage.

Interesting concept though... always kinda wanted to try that... and a campaign where things cloak alot... but thats not possible currently in FS2... well it is... but it looks horrable (ship just "disapeers"), and it requires alot of sex. ... er... sexps.

Actually if you think about it you'd almost thing HIGHER tech would eliminate the need for fighters. They'd do so little damage that they'd be pointless in place of capitol ships with heavy cannons.

But anyway, I want antiques. It's my nature, I gotta go against the norms. :D

sounds great but dont you people think you should finish the stuff youre currently working on rather than plunging into 20+th campaign that is gonna be "in the making"?

Truth be told in AP I'm pretty much just writting up mission designs with word processors. That doesn't take long or take up much of my time. I'm just waiting for my staff to return.

Isn't the 158th kinda doing this?

It sounds like a good idea though good luck writing a good story that fits into FS (now that i think of it, shoudln't be too hard)

Maybe i'll help you in a year or so. :blah:

well.. it really sounds fun... i can help if you want... looks like ill need to drop a few projects again first. Ive already got some good ideas if you wanna hear them.

I really haven't been into FS for nearly two years, but it seems to me that fighters would be a plausible idea...I mean, we've got jet fighters and crap in the real world...of course, I haven't been around a lot, so I don't really know for certain...

KT: 158th is similar but not quite as far back I don't think. And if it is, well this is my take on it. ;)

The concept of the fighter is ingrained in to the modern psyche. It'll take some time before the human race abandons the role of the fighter in warfare...

And MM - we do have jet fighters in the real world. And crap, too :)

Into the Night: Exposition (the 158th demo) will take place in late 2260, doing pretty much the same thing; with most of the action taking place inside earth's atmosphere and thus why many of the ships for Exposition have fans ;)

Realisticly speaking however, this campaign will probably remain an idea for quite a bit yet.

RL issues are edging me against starting a project until probably January. Hate to start and then suddenly go AWOL. But it's good to see there is support for this idea and I do plan to go forward with it sometime soon.

Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
