Any tips on saving the Nebtuu?
It's the Sobek that engages the Shivan corvette Abraxis in the convoy escort mission near the end of the main FS2 campaign. I think it's the first mission as part of the 70th Blue Lions.

I've heard it's possible to save the corvette, yet of the dozens of times I've played the mission, I've never been able to. A few bombs will always get through and nail it. The Nebtuu usually bites the dust around the time a bunch of Seraphim bombers appear.

Btw, I take out the Abraxis's beam turrets with Trebuchets at the start of the mission and tell all my wingmen to protect the corvette.
My one and only mission (took me a year to complete): Laying Down of Arms
Mission description: Alpha wing aids in the boarding and capturing of three surrendering NTF warships.

Try telling them to actively target the bombers, so you're sure they aren't going after the Manticores... not that I ever saved the thing, of course :)

Ah.... saving the Nebtuu....

Like you said, trebbing the  Abraxxis's main beams at the beginning is good.

Second: Always good to carry either the Maxim or Morning Star with you. (Morning Star is best; both the range and kinetic effect can hold off Shivan bombers with ease)

Third: Try to stay within 1000-1250 meters of the corvette as much as possible. Try not to let the Mantis lure you away. That's exactly what the Nebtuu's anti-fighter turrets are for.

Finally: If you really need to, call in Theta. Three extra fighters can be a huge boost.

Hope this helps.

Unpatched, it's definitely doable. However, the Nebtuu is expected to die. When you save it, it heads to the jump point and just sits there. You never get the return to base directive and have to restart the mission.

In the patched version of this mission I've never managed to save it. IIRC they made the Shivan bombers warp in a lot closer.

its meant to die, though taking down the hostile corvette is easy to finish off with trebs. They are HUGE weapons, that do about 0.5% per shot (1% in dual-fire). You don't need that lazy corvette anyways. Stupid Vasudans.

"We die with honor" bull****, you know thats not the true translation, they are probably pointing out how the opposing Shivan crew's mothers have weight problems, or are less attractive then expected.

Also attack the Beam cannons on the Shivan Corevett and tell your wing men to gaurd the convoy also call for backup as soon as you can.

Any tips on saving the Nebtuu?
For the last several missions, I usually load up an Ares with 1st bank: Maxim, 2nd bank: UD-8 Kaiser.  1st bank: Trebuchet, 2nd bank: Harpoon

Definitely go for the beam cannons.  I usually pump my maxim and fire trebuchets AND hitting afterburners towards that thing at the same time.  I usually lose some hull points but I always pull through with saving the Nebtuu.  I even destroyed the Shivan corvette once with my Maxim!

Same loadout for me, but I use the HercII with the 6gun mod. Trebs rule!

You could open the mission in FRED and bugger around with it, perhaps make the Abraxis's hull at 2% or something.

Hmmm...
Haven't been there since the VBB closed.
Sad to see it with a bunch of broken links.
Don't quite understand why they leave it like this.

Hey Grunt, haven't seen you around too much after the VBB closed. :p

Also, yeah, it's sad, but Volition doesn't care.

Hi Redfang, good to see you. ;)

There are two reasons for me to stay away:

1) I can only browse HLP from home, cos it's restricted in work (smartfilter). ;7
And at home I use up all my FS credits for MODing. The remaining time from the 36 hours of a day is spent on my family.

2) The action here on HLP is simply too dense for me to follow. :D

But anyway FS live for ever !
Just fly on !

Time for a trip back to a thread on the VBB (RIP).

My loadout for this mission is:
Primary: Maxim
Secondary: Morning Star

Missle Bank 1: Trebs
Missle Bank 2: Tornados

This loadout is kind of tricky to use due to the massive energy consumption of the Maxim/Morning Star pairing.

let it be said.  I LOVE the Morning Star.  This weapon is awesome, if you know how to use it right.

Advantages:
One of THE best anti-bomb weapons due to it's range (3km I think?).  Excellent for shooting down warheads in flight.

Has a high rate of fire.

Lethal against capital ships, esp when paired with the maxim.  You can wipe out turrets at long range very very quickly.  Even though the MS is a kinetic weapon it does some pretty intense damage to hull plating.  Also works very well against Seraphim bombers.

Can stop a fighter in flight.  Yup, you got it.  Pop up behind a mara and smack it a few times with the MS, then unload your missles.  Can't get away!

If you really want to piss people off in the multiplayer version, bring a morning star along with you :).

Disadvantages:
You can easily end up chasing a fighter all over the field of engagement if you try to use the morning star as a "gun".  It just doesn't work this way.  Think of it as a "hammer".

High energy consumption (esp paired with the Maxim).  You can burn through your reserves in about 6 seconds firing both continuously.  Don't shoot untill you see the...er... "reds" of their....um...whatevers?

Pathetic against shields.

Summary:

Consider the morning star as a pairing for this mission.  I have saved the nebtuu once in the patched version on "Medium", but as has been stated, you have to restart the mission anyway.

Using the morning star can also help in the final mission for the same reasons in "advantages".
:)

If it's from the FRED Forum I may have it. What was it about?
