I've got the F-44 textured (using the Ranger paint scheme

But I can't get the textured model to work in FS2.  It keeps telling me that it couldn't open the texture files.  They're saved as PCX files (version 5) using Paint Shop Pro 4 and I converted the model using Gary's COB2FS utility and the FSMM2 utility (can't get Kazan's utility to work for me, keeps telling me the objects aren't grouped together).

If anyone has an idea what's up I'd appreciate it.
I told you that It would be done by November, well, mostly anyway...

I'm working on something new... shhhhh, it's a seceret.

Are the textures 256 colors?

also make sure with modelview32 that the textures are properly named.
Freespace 2 IS case sensitive so make sure you get the capital letters right.

lastly make sure the .pcx files are in the freespace/data/maps directory.

hope one of those fixes it. They are all problems that I have encountered.

Really nice texture job by the way, could look better if it looked a little battle scared.

And PCS only converts models with LODs etc.
Think of it as a way of helping you make better models

Thanx Wraith, These textures aren't final (kinda rushed 'em actually).  Right now I'm more interested in getting the correct UV settings and getting them to work in the game (then I'll spend some time to really make them look pretty   )

That's kinda what I thought [about my problem with PCS].  Guess I'll have to rework my models to include LODs sooner than I thought (but not going to bother until I can get textures to work, first things first after all...)

I'm pretty sure that version 5 PCX is 256 colors (I'll double check when I can), but I did have a thought.  When you 'paint' the model in TS using bitmaps, does it matter what the location of the source bitmaps is?  or is it just the name of the map that's important. (what I'm getting at is, does the bitmap have to also be in the 'maps' folder at the time that the model is textured and saved, or does it matter...)  I know that the PCX files used by FS2 have to go in the maps directory of course...

No, it can be in any folder you like. Even ModelView won't check the data/maps folder, only the folder the model itself is in.

As for the grouping problem, just glue a light to the model. Then it'll be a group and it should convert.

You know what?  If you do what you're supposed to in the first place these things usually work much better

I had saved the textures as 16-bit (true-color) files!  It never occured to me that *.pcx files could be greater than 256 colors... Oops!

Anyway, now that that catastrophy is taken care of, I'm having a bit of trouble with Truespace (I know, I know, who isn't...)  Whenever I use cubical projection, it insists on using planar projection instead.  Makes it impossible to properly detail the side faces of the model.  So far it only does this with this model (unwrapper works properly with all my capital ships, so far anyway), Does anyone know what's happening here?  (BTW- Thanx for all your help and input guys, it's really encouraging for someone just starting out to hear that his stuff doesn't suck total a**...)
