After the Great Crash of Warpstorm, heretic had all but decided to abandon it in favor of concentrating on Libra Wars. I was, and still am BTW, not happy with the idea of WS dying and tried to convince him not to kill it. The arguement I made might have had some affect, though I think being bugged by others did more, but later he did open a sub-forum in Libra, thus starting the last two generations of Warpstorm.
What I told him was this: Warpstorm represented the spirit of the internet. Think about it, it had topics but most of the time they were ignored. Those who visited it almost never left, and it was a fun place. That and it crashed every couple of months. Or something like that, I forget exactly.
The point of this is simple, Warpstorm had a kind of spirit that should not be allowed to die. The Warpstorm domain and name, however, are unnecessary. In fact, I once commented that I thought we should abandon the Warpstorm name due to all the tarnish it had absorbed over the years. (BTW, when did it get started, I've got an idea.)
That's what Operation Rift is (I needed a name, that's why I used Rift), a resurrection of Warpstorm's spirit, but in a new form. Using my own money (along with a friend of mine), a new site and forum will be established with similar elements to what you know and love, along with a few new things. This, unfortunatly, will take a while as I'm completely new to this. Hopefully, it'll be up and going before the new year.
Until then, I'll make arrangements for a temporary Rift to be setup on an ezboard (silence, the best part is coming) that has been paid for and thus has no ads or popups (see, I told you). The person who owns it is sleeping right now, so I'll link to it sometime tomorrow once its up and going.
What I need from you is your support. Not your money (I've got enough, for now), but your moral, and technical, support to make this happen. This is all new to me, but we've all got to start somewhere, and with something this good at stake, this is the best place possible.
Warpstorm is dead, however, and we shall all mourn its loss. But its spirit is alive and kicking.
