A FS2 Multiplayer Question
I want to play a head-to-head multiplayer game with a workmate.  He connects to the Internet via cable and I connect via DSL.  We want to dogfight without going through the PXO servers.  Freespace 2 prompts me (he's hosting a game) that no game server(s) are found.  What do we have to do?

well, i'm not sure about FS2, but in FS1 go to OPTIONS --> MULTI... in the 'multi' menu, usually "Parallax Online" button is selected.  deselect it.

now above that, make sure "broadcast locally" is on (if you're going to be playing on a network... if you're not, then leave it off).

now in the "IP ADDRESSES" list, add your friend's IP address, and have your friend add your IP address to HIS list.

then go as if you're going to play a regular game.  when you click "play a multiplayer game" or whatever, instead of going through PXO, it takes you to the 'game' screen, where you see what games are being played, etc.  as soon as one of you makes a game, the other person will see it and vice-versa.

:)

EDIT:

in case you do'nt know how to find your IP address, on a windows operating system go to:
START -->  RUN --> (type "COMMAND") --> type (in the dos prompt) "IPCONFIG"
and it tells you your IP address... :)

That procedure works in FS2 as well; I have used it a few times when PXO was down.

A FS2 Multiplayer Question
My workmate has Windows XP and connects to his cable ISP via a router.  He has a wireless system and can play Freespace with his son.  According to him, the programs to seek out the IP address does not exist on his system.

Anyone with suggestions where he can obtain his IP?  He uses American Online.

1. Typing IPCONFIG at the command prompt will give you your IP address. I don't see any good reason for this not to work on a Windoes machine.

2. Laugh at him for using AOL. Then smack him with a kipper.

1)  XP as far as i know doesn't have the 'command prompt'... if START --> RUN --> winipcfg
doesn't work, then try this:
https://grc.com/files/IP_Agent.exe

it tells you your IP... regardless of what OS you're running (i think)... once you both have each other's IPs, follow the instructions i made in my first post

EDIT:  AOL could be screwing him up too... AOL sucks by the way

it has a command prompt. type command or cmd at the run box. then enter ipconfig.
