Yes your right Mercury is a bot hot for colonisation, on it's sunny side, However in the planets shadow is ok. The planet's surface on the sunny side is just about cool enough for robotic mining / manufacture.

but mercury's main advantage is as a distrubution center given it's advantageous central position with Great solar sail potential.

remember for half the time Mercury is between Earth an Mars i.e.

You've got a point Wraith.  Except for possibly lethal amounts of radiation, Mercury should probably be a major point of interest (it's positioning as a 'way-station' for Mars alone would make it worth a lot).

Although this universe (and its storyline) is about three years old (and over a year old in its present form) it's very much a work-in-progress, I'm definately going to have to give this some thought...
