I remember reading in here awhile back that DivX cutscene support was being planned, so I contacted them, intending to find out if it was going to be OK to use Divx cutscenes inTI. Apparently, it may not be:

Thank you for your inquiry! To integrate DivX into any software or application, a license is required. Is this a PC game that is freely available on the internet? Can you give me an idea of how many downloads, how much the product costs, etc.?

That's the core of the Email I got from them. So has anybody else spoken to the DivX people or know anything else about this?

The divx playing code is in the code already but sadly its trapped in the DX8 branch. Its all done through DShow so we shouldnt need a license.

xvid is completely free.
It's better than divx5 but it may have more bugs because it's quite new. Unfortunately also xvid development has changed...

http://www.xvid.org/

It seems that third party devs have done more job on the codec for some time...

NIC's http://nic.dnsalias.com/
Koepi's http://www.roeder.goe.net/~koepi/xvid.shtml
uManiac's http://xvid.hopto.org/

Currently Doom9.net recommends uManiac's. Doom9.net is known for dvd-ripping stuff so it should know pretty well what's the best xvid out there.

This is where my knowledge ends, I hope someone with more knowledge about xvid steps by...
Hope this helps somehow...

The movie player technically doesn't incorporate divx, it uses whatever codecs windows knows about.

It would be up to mod authors to seek permission (once we have the movie player in the main code base) to distribute divx movies, and the end user would have to have the DivX codec installed.

If you want, forward that email to me, I cna probably help you with that pursuit. No one should have to pay anything for this stuff ;)

yeah, like the divX people will hunt for licenses fees. It's like saying Unisys will hunt down people who use .gif images coz they don't pay the right to use it.
