Something I've been working on for the last few days (sorry for the quality of the pic, I couldn't make out anything when ray-tracing it)

Right, now I need some help. See those slanted engine bits at the back? See how they look so simple and plain? I just can't think of anything to put on them. Any advice on what I should put there to make it look more detailed?

how about this sort of thing

Just a quick model but I think bending them in the middle would look good. sort of turning them down at the tips.

I may do that. Did that for an earlier ship, turned out pretty decent.

Heck, that's a good suggestion.

Well, you could start by making them a bit longer, maybe. If you want more physical detail, I'd add an extrusion to the top-inner parts, and make it another part of the engine, and let it sort of "hang" over the back...
 Hard to describe...Ill try this.

Code: [Select]
current engine (viewed from back)
************
************

New engine      (from back)
      ******
************
************

(from side)

 ***********
**********
**********

Hope that helps a bit! Maybe add some ridges, or out-of-plane features, like an extrusion slanting out of the bottom. Hard to describe 3D ideas in text.

yup hard to work in text. thats why I resorted to a quick model.

The model isn't right but it get the Idea across. Perhaps we need a VRML notice board
