Ok, seems my joystick isn't liking Windows XP. Its a Sidewinder Precision Pro and apparently it's just not going to run anymore. I need some advice on what joystick to buy now. :D

Yeah, XP is having problems with ports. Before buying a new joystick try to update some drivers. :)

Being a MS stick,...I'd work on gettin that to work with XP b4 forking out the $ for a new stick but suggestions for a new one :

Saitek's X 45 if you like the stick + throttle layout $80

Of course Saitek's new Force Feedback Cyborg stick is my next one $35-40

Gravis Eliminator Precession Pro $30

Spend some money, and you'll never ever regret it. Get a Thrustmaster HOTAS/Cougar. $269 thru Amazon.com, and its the single most programmable, versatile, solid stick on the market right now.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

I have MS SideWinder Precision Pro and absolute no problems with it so far.

I suggest you try your joystick in another computer or another joystick in your computer before making any costly decisions. And WindowsUpdate is also recommended place to visit sometimes...

And I saw it coming... mikhael bragging about HOTAS Cougar again. :D

Joysticks are the bane of my life. I can't use the drivers that came with the stick, as it stops the sound card working, so I use the windows drivers. This means I have to recalibrate the stick every week, as the handle twist just f**ks up!

That sucks... :(
I have never calibrated my joystick because there's no need to, it's perfect as is. :)

I have a Sidewinder force feed, it works fine on XP.  When i put in the CD that came with it, said it didnt work on my OS. But XP can sort that easily.  Go to Controll panel -> printers and other hardware -> game controllers -> add.  Scroll down and it comes up with an MS sidewinder stick (autodetect) option, use that, should work.

There is an advantage of using a keyboard for all your gaming: they are cheaper. :D

Setekh? I said I have no problems with my joystick. :)
The CD is useless by the way, the software for MS Precision Pro does not work on XP.

But I don't need the software anyway. :p

Now I've got that problem. Got the stick working which is the main thing. Is it still possible to have the software with it installed somehow?

Nope. There's two versions of Sidewinder software out there. But the latest is only available in new CD's. Too bad that either of them does not work on XP.

Funny really, one thoughts M$ should support their own OS and update driver softwares but noooo...
I don't need the software anyway, most games supports remapping of keys.
