well since it's only me who seems to want to do FS1 missions then scrap the contest idea.
I have big plans, now if only I could see them through.

I would love for there to be a FRED 1 contest, and I'd enter that if there was one, definitely!  C'mon, people!  I don't think you give FS1 the credit it deserves.  Some of the best missions I've ever played, in fact MOST of the best missions I've ever played, were on FS1.

I'd do it, even though yes, I prefer FS2.

And what would stop them from being written for FS2 instead?

Unless you have an idea that needs the ships from FS1 that didn`t appear in FS2 I can`t see any reason for not modding in FRED2 instead

FS1 does have limited options, and I'm in love with a lot of the FS1 ships far more than the FS2 ones.   But whatever, that's just my vote.

Wrong, i would have voted Only FS1, but AOL users still can't always post...

Hold a FS1 contest anyway... see who enters... its not right to keep people who can't get FS2 to run on their computer out of the picture... even if you have to limit the thing so you can't enter both contests, its better than nothing

Go to Home of the Underdogs and download FS2. There you go. You`re no longer excluded :)

I say we should have the contest, this is a freespace community, not a freespace 2 community.

I have FS2... but it doesn't always run on a 6 gigabite computer with 56k ram and 450 mghrtz... It doesn't help that the install disk only sometimes is readable...

Plus, i like FreeSpace TGW FREDding better than FS2, because capship battles last longer than a few beam shots nad FS1 FREDding is easier, but just as fun...

I'm also biased because FreeSpace TGW is more likley to make you want to finish it in two days, where FS2 makes yuou want to occasionally take a break--My opinion

Don't get me wrong, i like FS2 as much as the next guy, but FS1 is outranking FS2 in my list of favorite games...

BTW I'm not trying to undermine the FS2 contest, but i think the FS1 contest would be a big hit after the FS2 one is finished...

I`m sure you mean 56 Meg there. Even my spectrum had more ram than 56k :)

Anyway I guess your points are mostly vaild but you do know that you can remove the beams in FS2 and have capital ships duke it out like in the old days :)
