A friend of mine came up with a cool weapon idea that has proven to be impossible without source code modifications.  What the weapon calls for is a rotating turret being visible\acting as a weapon in the primary\secondary window, secondary weapon turrets to then be able to lock on like a missile, and beams with ammo.  If this is at all possible, please let me know; i'm going to try to learn C++ and help out.

Beams with ammunition? That doesn't even make sense.  It's an energy beam.  :wtf:

Maybe you only have so many battery cells to power to beam. And knowing the GTVA, they had some great reason that backfired for not using the reactor grid.:)

Would be stupid to let beams use energy cells:D kinda ****ty when you need to replace a 150 ton energy cell in combat:p

Well it's the only alternative, as it couldn't be a primary. Correct me if I'm wrong, but primaries must be dumbfire.. thus, no lock on.

I wanted to make a gun like this before, but I guess it couldn't be done. So ammo does make sense, power cells as said. Unless you can make a secondary drain your energy reserves.

True, but it will be a secondary weapon.   Use primary's to fight off the enemy and as soon as the battle drops off, call in a support ship and rearm the cannon.

The Weapon: A fighter turret mounted beam cannon that will use ammunition and visibly have to lock on to a target before firing a 1.5 second beam at about the power as a SRed.  The fighter with the cannon built on can only carry about 6 shots and the turret destroys itself after the ammo is gone (heat melt-down).  The turret will be restored at the next rearm.

I know it sounds unrealistic for the time period, but for the first actual fighter beam cannon, its a start.

Yeah, I bassically want to do the same thing.

A beam, with a small cone of view, lock on, and its is like a sniper rifle, shoots long range in a burst that lasts as long as your energy and does good damage, but eats all of your energy after like a second or two.

It would probably have a special "artilary" fighter to go on, something that is fairly week, slow, has no other weapons other than its massive long range capabilities.

Anyways, SCP guys, maybe give this a second look? It could have some awesome capabilities if you can pull it off.

Oh demon, I'll try your stuff tommarow or this weekend. I've only had time to test a mission so far this week due to massive amounts of school work and finals next week. Sorry dude.

Hmm... I like the idea, though I'd suggest an AAAf instead of an SRed. Think Ursa. Think Medusa. The turret's supposed to fight off fighters, not capships.
A Seth is a terrible thing to waste. The reverse applies for Shivans.
