Western Light Carrier Finally Friggin Finished!!!
I agree, you have a fine mod coming on there. However the top of the carrier is *bare* ???!!!GASP!!!!!???? where are the polys going to rack up on this one?? well???!!!

Put something like 2 large (flat) turrets or a built up section or a box or 2 to one side or something...

Actually, you can't see it right now as it's not skinned, but the top of the carrier is for fighter recovery (so it has to be kept clear).  The idea is along the same lines as the angled deck on a modern carrier, so a recovery mishap doesn't interfere with your launch capacity.
I told you that It would be done by November, well, mostly anyway...

I'm working on something new... shhhhh, it's a seceret.

So... they still use chemical projectile weapons, but have artifical gravity?

I don't understand what using the nice, flat deck on the ship has anything to do with artificial gravity...

The fighters would be held to the deck via magnetic clamps.  The elevators would simply be used to transfer the craft to the hangar for service and launch prep.  The only 'artificial gravity' on board is from the ship's thrusters (about .1g sustained at that...) which means that the elevator would need to be able to pivot 90-degrees to transfer the craft into the hangar, and another mechanism would be needed to move the ship back into launch position at the bow of the ship.  Certainly difficult but not entirely unfeasable.

Well, I would think if you don't have AG, you'd be more likely to use some sort of clamp that could physically grasp ahold of the fighter.  If you have some sort of gravity, well, that's easy, you just drop the fighter down until it falls to the deck.

so in fact the front of the ship is in fact the top of the ship

Gravitationally speaking... yes.  The Hangar and the command tower are arranged at a right-angle to the ship's direction of travel to take advantage fo the ship's own acceleration.  The recovery deck is arranged along the ship's direction of travel to make
fighter recovery easier.  The Launch facility is at the front of the ship aligned along the ship's direction of travel... because... it looks cool that way

Far better   It also makes the whole bomber look bigger. Sort of rescaling the way you look at it.

I finally got one of the skins done (the USS Ranger's paintscheme).  What do you think of it now?

I didn't think the first turret was that bad... ok maybe it was but it was only the third model I ever did
