The GTC Orestes WAS the Taiidan Ion Cannon Frigate BEFORE I modified it into the GTC Orestes.  It's a juggernaut-destroying cruiser with one mondo beam turret.

Though I am always a fan of the homeworld ships, especially the Tiadan ships, I think they need at least some modification to work well in game.  Try pulling off the spikes where the ion cannon would go, and detailing the front a little.  Any detail you could add would help too.

It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

Not too familiar with Homeworld.
For a GTC it's a very good model IMO.
You could spike it with some antifighter weaponry though.
Just fly on !

Initially, this looked a lot worse than it actually is, the pic doesn't fully do it justice. A few suggestions though.

 - Increase the iling on the big textures - most of thos metal plates are several hundred square meters in area and unbroken, and the windows probably cover 3 decks and 15 rooms.

 - change the dockpoint texture - it looks out of place and the dockpoint itself is massive. Even if you just magic wand the dark parts and increase their brightness so it fits in.

Aside from those, it's great (though I think a crew of 4 might be pushing it a little - 50 or 60 yes - 4 people on a 384m ship is unlikely. :p)

Thanks for all your suggestions.  The thing is that I customized the ship's textures way before I actually got it into trueSpace and modified it.  I spent almost a week brainstorming this vessel and its looks.  I personally think that the textures look fine as it is due to the ship's purpose.

It's purpose is to house a giant BGreen ion cannon.  The crew of four stays almost permanently in the mid-outer sections of the hull.  The rest houses the beam cannon and the engine system.  The docking point is designed to be big for the sake of Argo transports' bottom dock.

I personally agree that the textures, especially the metallic ones, should be made better, but I spent almost two days doing this and going back is not likely. :p

  • Who? What? Noway!
I would still increase the crew to at least ten. Unless you want these guys on duty 24 hours a day, everyday.

A tip for you: I would stop doing those grids beneath your publishing renders, because they are for fighters and weapons - pilot-issued hardware. If you insist on doing it with grids, you ought to make the grid repeat much more (larger scale) and give your ships some more perspective. Right now it looks more like a new type of gun than a cruiser. ;)
