Hey,

First, in my private campaign I'm making a new species. I want ships for them (eg. fighters, bombers, corvette, destroyer, etc).
If someone would be really kind and do these for me? Thanks a ton.

Uh... Sorry I can't be to helpful...but...what do these new species ships LOOK like.

Also, not that many ppl will post(I could be wrong) because of all the new campaigns springing up all over the place.

If I could model, I would help you, but I don't know how to.

Mind telling us a bit about what the campaign is about?

A willing modeller for an entirely new species will be extremely hard to find, but there are some ways you can fake this sort of thing

First, look for unusually shaped mods (I reccomend Bob's and Infernos Ancients ships, a few of the vasudan mods etc.) and reskin them with some oddly coloured textures in MV32. Changing the red in Shivan textures alters them quite a bit, and the ancients textures can also be modified without too much difficulty to great effect. I have an ancients typhon that looks quite effective IMO done with entirely this method. All you need is MV32 and a basic knowledge of PS/PSP (or access to a lot of textures from other sources).

That will cover some caps (possibly even all if you don't need too many), leaving just fighters, whci presents a problem as these are UVMapped. Go through a similar thing of looking for mods which have a relatively simple UVMap, and reskin them. A daunting prospect, but not impossible. Start with a base texture, add a cockipt, an then start adding doodads from other skins for detailing. If done well, and your colours are right, with a bit of practice you can turn out fairly original looking reskins.

It would be a lot of work to do it that way, and possibly beyond your resources/abilities but with the sheer number of campaigns in production, finding a free modder to do even one ship is a challenge, let alone an entire new species.

If you do do it this way, good luck, if not, then the same luck can go towards finding a willing modder :)

Alternately, join Twisted Infinities. We've got... some things that may interest you, and we could always use some help. I can't remember the URL offhand, but BW has it somewhere. Or you can do a search.

You will be hard pressed to find a modeller willing to commit to a project of this magnitude. For some reason, though, the modellers all complain of a lack of FREDders...

If you want to recruit a modeler, you need a some sort of proposal... ideas and drafts scripts and so forth. You need to try and entice talent with your own talent - you need to show prospective modelers that you have writing abilites to match their models, or the deal is just one way :(

One question - what do you mean by a "private campaign"? Do you mean you are making it purely to be played by yourself? Or perhaps that you are not releasing any details to the public until it's finished?

What I mean by "private campaign" is that yes, it will be only played by me. I don't plan on releasing any campaigns (because their dumb, unprofessional).

Well, sorry to be blunt, but you definitely won't get a modeller. People are busy enough as it is making models for everyone to use - making a whole species wort for one person alone isn't going to happen I'm afraid.

I think I speak for almost everyone here, when I say:

***WARNING: EXTREME USE OF COURSE LANGUAGE AND CAPS LOCK AHEAD***

"WHAT THE **** DO YOU NEED A MODELLER IF YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE THAT IS GOING TO PLAY IT!!! LEARN HOW TO MODEL AND MAKE 'EM URSELF!!!"

On a side note...if you release it to the public(and don't call them "unproffesional" have you seen Inferno?! Or Derelict?! Or BWO?! Or etc, etc, etc, etc!!!" someone "might" help you out(highly unlikely)

And if you don't want to release it to the public and continue this...really stupid thread...then I'll PM Shrike, Or Sandwich, or Kalfireth to lock this...some what pointless thread.

Sorry, but that's the real deal

I think he's just illiterate and means that he wants to make it himself? Or mostly himself?

At any rate, I doubt you'll get anyone to make an entire race for you. ESPECIALLY with the amount of questions you are asking about easy things which would be clear if you looked at the tutorial or even just played around in Fred for an hour.

And excluding your freshness to the world of modding FS, no one is going to want to make an entire new race unless you give them/us some info. Either you post it here, or if you want to keep it secret, you hunt down and annoy moddelers individually with your ideas. But frankly, what your vaguely describing is "n00b-syndrome" where you come in out of no where, with all kinds of cliqued ideas such as "I want to make FS3 with the ancients and new shivans with bigger Juggernauts and a new Uber race and Bosch will come back and earth will finally come back and teh shivans will die!"

well I hate to break it to ya, but FS is 5 years old and Inferno has covered much of the n00b syndrome in the most professional way possible :D  My suggestion to you is to go over the FRED tutorial, put your campaign on the back burner for a while, and help out one of the the rising Campaigns that are already in progress.
This is a win win situation as the campaign gets done faster, there's on less to worry about, you learn valuable skills, and you make friends with people working in the campaign, which you can then carry over to your own ideas.

Whilst you're quite right, KT... you know, I've been a part of of the community for nigh on three years, and when I asked for modellers to vounteer for a S:AAB TC, there was hardly a rush...

That's because nobody likes you :p

More seriously though, both a TC and a new race are difficult to convince people to join, particularly if you're not a modder yourself, and so have nothing to demonstrate. What you should have done was ask for one ship, then another, then another...

If I had FS2 I'd help. In fact I'm getting pretty good at it.
I have big plans, now if only I could see them through.

Everyone here (except me) is working to complete campaigns that will eventually be availible to the community.. Take there advice and help out on a project in some way..

It would also be a learning experience for you in the long run, hell you may even break new ground in some way, but don`t listen to me, i`m just an old fart who doesen`t have any modeling experience and really I shouldn`t even post my opinion, but what else can an old fart do besides wait and listen for the releases to all those wonderful campaigns that are hosted here  :D

Let me get this straight. You're asking for an entire new race so you can make a "dumb and unprofessional" campaign and then not release it?

Jesus Christ! Do you actually expect people to do that?

heehee I missed that the first time.

that's rich.

I'm just curious.. why would you learn to fred, ask  a bunch of questions, then ask the modding community to make you a new race, then say you aren't going to let anyone play it because it sucks.

Try watching all those sci-fi shows like Star Trek, Babylon 5, Space: Above and Beyond and more to get some inspiration as to how to design some totally new ships.

That's how I get my ideas for starships.
