Actually, delta, I was aiming more of a cross between 00 and 02: it's got the one big eye like 00, but has a pair of 02-esque side eyes, giving it the triclopean appearance. Sooner or later I'll do a front pic of its face.
And as for the Zone mecha, they're quite highly detailed (something I don't see very often) but the overall designs aren't what I prefer. And it'd be nice if there were english variants of those sites, so I don't have to run it through babelphish...
Y'know, looking over the big Eva image, I think I kinda went a little too greeble-happy on the legs...and the hands need more work...blah, I quit bashing myself. These are very early forays into mecha drawing for me, so why am I expecting them to be perfect?
Ah, well, the chest looked a bit like 01's, hence my mention of it.
On the note of the Zone mecha..well, to each his own. Personally, I like the style. And, there are English versions, but unfortunately, the website isn't as detailed as the Japanese version. Also, the Mechanics page in the English version features the actual 3D models of the mecha rather than the beautiful artwork shown in the Japanese site.
And, for a first start, you're doing quite well. Unfortunately, there aren't many resources for aspiring mecha artists like myself... It's mostly a process of 'try try try until it looks right'. I would recommend a mecha book to you, however it focuses on the bulkier mecha you seem to dislike. Though there are more organic designs featured inside, it probably wouldn't be enough to suit your tastes. For the hell of it though, it can be found and ordered at
