What tutorial do you think is the most helpful? (tutorial for anything... FREDding, modeling, using a specific program, doing something in Freespace, etc.)

Without a doubt the FRED 2 tutorial that comes with the game. You go through it once and can then go straight to making your own missions

I actually never went through either the FRED helpfile or the FRED2 tutorials but learned the stuff by just experimenting and fooling around.

(have done this to learn many other game editors too) Perhaps I should try the tutorial sometime just to see what it is like...

It comes with the HOTU version

I persuaded a friend to download it, and he had the docs.
