I know it's crappy. It was made with nothing but ModelView and PSP.

Then don`t blur it. It's not like FS2 ships move THAT fast :)

Please dont insult my 2 greatest tools. :(

Best thing about PSP is the paint brush.  You can use this, along with the layering tool (very useful) to create nice engine glows and some cheap nebulas. Its also good for beams, with some practice.
To get a good star field, make a blank, black image, add a noise effect, then convert to grey scale and adjust contrast as apropriate.

...and stear well clear of the sunburst effect.

This is what i mean for the background and engine glows:

And beams:

Note first attempt at warp effect - what do you think?

"Your cynicism appauls me Collosus - I have ten thousand officers and crew willing to die for pants !"

"Go to red alert!"
"Are you sure sir? It does mean changing the bulb"

do not torment the sleep deprived artist, he may be vicious when cornered,
in case of emergency, administer caffeine to the artist,
he will become docile after that,
and less likely to stab you in the eye with a mechanical pencil

And why not, it costs ten times as much, so must be better, and I am getting it very soon!

BTW, some nice work there, beatspete!

Jesus Christ! Cut the lens flares!

Motion blur isn't really good, make it photoshop instead.

Anyway, the general idea looks good. Perhaps if you use 3dsmax or Lightwave you may get better results. Why not try Truespace 1 or 2? You can get them for free and they aren't really hard to use.

By the way, I can give you some cool nebulas and star fields I created if you want to. I have a bunch of them. They are all home made and are pretty cool. :)

Both of 'em are nice. I don't see any reasons why Zip files should be evil.

Well zip isn't evil, but rar has heavier compression thus makes the file smaller. Zip has low compression.

ZIP = more widely supported

RAR = less friendly interface

In the last 3 months I haven't used a single zip file. Everything i've downloaded was .rar

Just d/l winrar. It supports both files. Lets you create both rar and zip.

Well, I think for small files it doesn't really matter but when you go for the 100+ MB files you'd better use rar files as it has 10-20% better compression.
