Ok, some of us have been kicking things around, things to make things a little more fun/less monotanous around here.  Everything from better advertising and hype of fred contests and model contests, to the creation of mini mods to get releases in a hurry, to Shrike's New Node Wars format.  

The thing is, no one has thought to ask what you want, it's your forum too, so why don't you tell us what you want, kind of like we do with the Source Code guys.

By us i mean the people who have been talking about this stuff.  Maybe we can all get something put together to present to the powers that be and get something done with it.

Actually another thing that has been cliqued in the past week.. but is a good idea: Some kind of community project where everyone can contirubte.

Maybe something like UT's HLP stories or the History of HLP dramatized and played out in a mini-campaign or something. Frankly, although i have plenty of work, i'm kinda bored in between jobs/procrastinating stuff.

OK  there are a ton of models out there to download, and wioth a bit of table magic you have new weapons, and then with a bit more you have new weapons on your new ships.  Fred five missions and you have a campaign.  add voices and you can release it.  add five more and you have a sequel, instead of releasing massive and massively complex campaigns, why not create a series of mini mods that go from CB to CB?  usually four to five missions between CB's, so they always make good stopping points for releases.   I am not saying to stop work on the big magor mods, but sometimes when i look at the CF i get overwhelmed with the amount of work i set out to do.  I am sure that other people get just as overwhelmed when they see that while i may release episode 1 in six months, it will probably two years or more before the final episode is realeased and the story is finally told.  Maybe some good short term mods to act as fillers.  how many of the people who aren't involved would be willing to do something like this?  and how many who are involved would be willing?  I guess that's the thing.

I'd say trebuchet, but you'd have to have like 40 million to scratch the Sath :lol: I don't mind history, you can prolly pick up more education from history here than at school anyway :D

Anyways, what I'de really want is a big community project that had everyone involved (if more people are involved then theres actually a chance of finishing) that had all new high quality models, mission etc..like Freespace 2.5

but I'm realistic and know whats not too likely to happen. If anyone has ever played EOC_online ( http://www.independencewar2.com ) or utopia ( http://games.swirve.com ) then I would like something like that. Either a browser game (text based, but believe me it can be very fun) where you pilot you ship to different sectors and shoot other people etc (with factions and a persistant world), or a browser text game where you build  a fleet, manage resources etc etc, all in the FS universe

I think the second idea is more likely to happen, all it needs is someone who know php or something like that

Hex is working on some sort of model producing group, taking a range of skills from different modelers and putting them together. SOmething like this for campaigns would be really good.  curently it seems there are many projects with a few people on each, but they never get very far because the people invloved get distracted.  With a large 'workforce' you'd get a lot more done. With all the skill that we have here at HLP, it doesnt seem much is getting used.  If the community took everyone with skills and managed the assignment of work among them, there would be a lot more campaigns on your hard disk.

Afterall, whats the summary statement for HLP? "Bringing Modders Together"

Back on the original topic, the main things I would like to see are a scrollbar in the command briefing window and the two things I mentioned in that sexp thread a few months ago:

Also, one other little thing that might be nice would be to increase the limit of alternate names to 20 or so. The alt name feature is useful when there are standard GTVA classes of ships under the control of some other faction (since the prefix needs to be changed from GT or GV to whatever else), but the current limit only allows for 10 different such ships in any one mission.

that would be cool to, and be usable for things outside the HLP movie, like other renders. i'm willing to stop my seti client for a rendering one.

Not that I know any better, but isn't this current forum an okay place for that? I mean, assuming people have the right mind-set when they're discussing such things - maybe a new forum with special rules would help, though.
