Can someone make a custom background for me and how do I add custom music to levels?
Hey,

I have an interesting level idea and scenen in an FS2 level that will stick in peoples minds after they play my campaign if everything works out.

I was wondering if custom nebula and planet backgrounds could be made to work in levels.

If so, could someone help me with a background? What I have in mind is a large splochy grey nebula that looks almost like the aftermath of a supernova. Kind of a smokey look. However it is mostly for an accent. I don't want any part of the level to look black. However I need stars to shine through it. This way it almost looks like you are in a giant nebula but you are actually surrounded by a bunch of nebulas but it all looks like one big one. I also need a planet that is grey as well with large black scorch marks to give it an accent. Kind of a glossy black stripe that looks like a scorch mark on different parts of the planet. The planet also needs to have craters and look a bit like the moon. Anyways, if this could be done I would greatly appreciate it.

Also to add to that, how do I convert and add music to my new campaigne?

Thanx in advance for your help:O)

Side note: I have redesigned the Prodigy G-96 and I think people will like the redesigne. It looks faster, sleeker, and more detailed than the original. I'll post more about it soon )

As for the backrounds, please open:

freespace2\data\freddocs\walkthough.html..

you will find the walkthrough for FRED2 there, which also covers the backround.

As for the music, that's a bit complicated and requires a music.tbl-change. Which music would you like to see in the mission?

The thing is that I can make backgrounds yes. However they don't have the right color configurations. I'm talking about a modification to the game of some sort that adds some new backgrounds. As for music. There must be some way that you can do this. I want to add a whole new soundtrack to the game including some heavy metal type music. :O)

Altering the music is quite easy. Use VPViewer to get the filename of the tune you want e.g. Aquitaine.wav, this is the main music. Now, get whatever music you want to replace the old music with and put it, in WAV format 22,000 16 Bit Stereo, into the directory 'Freespace2\data\music'under the same name as the file you want to replace (In this case Aquitaine.wav).
Try not to have too long a piece of music, preferably about the same length as the one you are replacing, bigger files take up much more memory.

Adding briefing musics is quite easy...get the VP tools and opn the music.tbl..adding an in-flight soundtrack is hard, since you have define exactly how long each part of the track is played...you must have entries for normal, battle, arrival and goal songs...

BTW, save all songs in the ADPCM wav format...they are compressed then...
