How to get this Lodding working?
I'm starting out on a Mod for Freespace 2, I'm using quite a few programs to make the models and 3D Explorer to convert between formats. The only problem is that I only have the 30 day trial of Truespace 2, since higher versions won't allow saving at all :o(
I have found tutorials on creating Models for FS2 but they all seem to think you need Truespace 3 or above, since TS2 has no TruView panel :o( This means I can't get LOD's to work.
Is there any way of getting LOD's into FS2 without using 3DS Max or Truespace2? I hope someone can help, I've got some good ideas, and this is really the only bit of it I can't seem to figure out :o(

Thanks!

How to get this Lodding working?
If you ask me Truespace in general is overrated :o(
Can you give me a quick run through of what I need to do, I've got four cob objects for the LOD's (Well, three, but I use the first one twice) Each model is two submodels, the chassis and the jets, I think I need to make each chassis the parent of its jet if Modelview is anything to go by, but what is the relation between lods? Do I need to make each model the parent of the next LOD down? If so, how do I do this without seperating the models first and thus creating an offset?
Please help! I can skin em but I don't smoke em ;o)

Ill try, never done this before but heard it loads

You know about the lights and gluing right?
why did I ask that if I was going to put it in anyway? (why did I ask that?)

Glue the thrusters to a light then glue that combo to the corosponding lod. glue the lod (with attached thrusters) to the main hull. Glue them individualy to the main hull not one on the other - call them detail* (* is the number, I use a,b and c to represent LODs 1 through 3. I aslo don't put thrusteers on C. attach a light to C if not thrusters are present, like a terminator on a BNC network).

Hope that helps

How to get this Lodding working?
I'm really having no luck with this :o(
I've got the models as two seperate models, the chassis and the jets for each LOD. I load in the jets and create an omni light from the primitives panel. I the select the jets, click glue as child as then click on the light I created. I then load the body, and select it, click glue as child and click on the jets. Once I've done this for each model, I am clicking on the LOD0 Model and gluing each other model as child to the LOD0 model. I don't know if a special type or colour of light is needed, and I don't know how important the material names etc are in Freespace, since I am used to 3DS MAX, I'm not even sure how to change these details. Finally, How do I do all this gluing etc without moving the models out of the way of each other, which ends up in the four models being all over the screen and seemingly unable to replace :(
Mebbe there is a Tutorial I missed somewhere that would help and save people having to answer obvious questions. I've modded homeworld before and a few other games, but I am new to TRuespace :o(

use gule as sibling

lights, just normal lights

use the left and right arrow keys to navigate between models of that level use up and down to go between levels (what you glue)
