On a more 'on topic' (oh God I've re-railed the thread!) note doesn't Relic make the most beautiful textures? It's always been one of my major criticisms of Freespace that those grey tiles just aren't very interesting to look at, relic makes a work of art every time it designs a ship. This is on top of my must buy list.

1. Karan S'Jet is alive and well.  She is back in HW2 as fleet command (again).

2. That box art isn't final.  It's only the initial design while the final art is being sorted out, though it might still be some form of head style C&C shot.  No one can say at this point (that came from a relic dev ).

3. The Goat throwing Viking Ship is a joke that dates back to the pre-days of HW's development.

eh? If you are referring to the first Homeworld, that was actually my major criticism as far as the graphics went. In my opinion the ship models were pretty good, but the textures were, well, terrible; they looked like just randomly colored dots and lines and didn't seem to have any depth or anything to them, a far cry from the FS2 texturing.

FS2 will still have a few ups on even the new homeworld engine in the major form of lighting application.  Beam glow textures and the glows themselves in FS2 still won't be as good in HW2 as they are in FS2 in my opinion.

I'd just like to see a pulsing ion beam carve through another ship in HW.

Actually Ice HW2 is set for release around July of this year.  Though there is a little rumour that it might get pushed back to October 03, but not much there after.
