Fighter model - As yet unnamed
Not sure if this ought to go in the FS Modding forum or here, but since I'm not sure, it goes here ^_^

I was kind of playing it for a heavy assault fighter role. It has plenty of secondary ammo capacity in the outer rings and outer hulls, then I'd assume the reactor would go behind the cockpit. This would allow all the things that require power, e.g. engines (at the back), primary weapons (either side of the cockpit), shields (probably a distributed system, so it wouldn't matter where the reactor went for them). It might also work as a light bomber, I guess.

Opinions? Constructive critisism? I might consider adding more engines along the lines of the outer hulls, to give it a bit more power. Poly count stands at 532, so there's a little spare for modifications.

A donut with a handle down the middle?

Don't make it donut shaped. :p

And if you wish to get it in-game it is supposed to go into the modding forum :)

That's not a donut, that's a toroid... :p It wouldn't be much of a donut if it was that skinny, wouldn't last long ^_^

Should I be pleased that it's not bad enough for you to be negative, or be annoyed that nothing constructive is provoked? Please can we get off the doughnut affilitations? The most useful ships often have everyday connotations... Like, umm... That Dildo cruiser :drevil:

Touché.

Ok, I quite like it being like that actually. Reminds me a of something out of I-War. Though it could possible be cooler if you make it more oval and not have the main hull pinch in the middle. Just a though.

now i look at it, it reminds me more of a pretzel then of a donut.

*runs*

*comes back*

*points and laughs*

*thinks of the fact he can't even put a cube ingame, and shut's up*

k, it looks rather, interesting, i just don't find this shape natural on spaceships.

That's easily enough done. Do you mean not pinched as in straight, or slightly bulged? I guess it's kinda turned out a bit boanerges-like in the mid-section. Oval is a pretty easy modification to do as well. As soon as I finish all this damn homework.

Pretzel is fine, pretzel is fine. I can imagine pretzels in space. No, really.

EDIT: Flattening the toroid a bit as well would probably make it look a tad cooler, maybe a bit vasudan-esque. Bit more work, but should I try that too?

Yeah, make various models. See what you like. Pick the parts you like in the different version and put them together. Mix and Match.

yeah, you don't need to bulge the middle. Maybe add a dome on the top. But not the bottom.

A dome? Bomber turret, or just a raised section?

Yeah, maybe like a turret.

That's kind of a feature reserved for heavy bombers... I guess with a little added detailing and modifications it could go down that route :) The turret might have to be positioned more rear-facing though, as that's where it could provide most coverage for attacks away from the primary line-of-fire.

Update: More oval, flatter toroid, small turret at rear (ship is still vulnerable to attack from below, but we don't want to make it too invulnerable now do we?). Unpinched the main hull slightly, but maybe not enough.

Now I'm going to sleep. 'Night. zZz...

looks kinda like the iligitimate child of a boanerges and a pegasus, with some karnak mixed in. make it a joint vasudan terran bomber.

I would beef up the center and the side struts, make them taller and have them poke through the front and back. Then you can have hardpoints and engines on the front and back of them.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll start working on it in about 6 hours time, after school. Fins are a good idea, even if they would kinda further the pegasus connotations that Carl was on about ^_^
Making the struts poke through... ugh... I guess I might be able to just flip what I have now... Maybe. Might take a little longer than fins though :)

I'd also think that you could make the oval tubing around it, sharper on the outer edge. And the cocpit can be smaller and narrower. Make it look dangerous. Maybe add some fins or something. Not too big. Something to just add some sharpness. :D

Update. Thanks for the suggestions, Dark_4ce, looking back to what it was originally it certainly looks a lot better now :)
The toroid has been made to go to what is practically an edge now, although it may be a tad hard to see on this particular pic. A few modifications to the main body as well, along with little fins as requested. I remodeled the cockpit a bit - with the triangulated polygons it looks sharper, and I pulled in the sides and reshaped the very front to fit that. Now it has some virtually flat areas that might be good for weapons points :)
