Laser vs Missile turrents
OK, now we all know that in the ship table a turrent must be called a PBank for an energy weapon and SBank for a missile. However, is this system independant of whether a turrent is set as laser or missile in modelview? Do I have to have a turrent set as missile and as SBank in order for it to fire missiles, etc?

ZylonBane is annoyed by the use if the word 'turrent'. Conversely, he is not annoyed by the use of the word 'turret'. Hence, I use the word 'turrent'. Do the maths.

And he uses 'Maths' too... silly Brit.

You can have all your turrets listed as laser turrets in Modelview and the missile turrets will work just fine if you assign them an SBank.

"turrent" looks more like "torrent" than "turret." :p

Anyway, I think that it is indeed independent of the pof setting, because changing $Default PBanks to SBanks and putting in a missile works perfectly fine. However, I vaguely remember having some trouble with this method in FS1 - it sometimes worked and sometimes did not - so maybe the pof thing is just a leftover from there.

Not to mention it sounds entirely n00bish... reminds me of that one n00b on the VBB (I think he signed up as Annoyance, and that he was) who said they discovered that there was a "turrent on the medusa"

Are you suggesting it be called "math"? That is dense.

Mathematics. Note please the S on the end, hence "maths"

anyway, why did all have such a problem understanding DG's question? There are two types of turret, laser and missile, but it does not matter as either type of weapon can be placed on them.

Perhaps it is leftover from FS1?

There was no problem. People simply wanted to post in this thread, even if they were unable to answer my question. I do hope they enjoyed themselves.

Thanks to those people who answered me. I'm off to do technical stuff to a large spaceship

Incidentially, raping the English language makes more than just Zylon cringe. If I hadn't known in advance you thought you were being clever misspelling a word to irritate him (and irritating Zylon is a practice I fully endorse, almost as much as doing same to an admin), I'd probably react similarly to him.

And, ah- you even have to set them in modelview? I'd assume it was for a reason, and that missiles involve some kinda pathing or model generation point or something that primaries don't.

I bet if someone works out a way to have aspect-seeking primaries or something like it, and uses a model with the old style of turrets, it'll crash the game though. Just a hunch.

No you don't.  Infact, Woomiester on Venom's GTD Gaia destroyer named half of the turrets as "missile turrets" and I set them all to be primary cannons (we're talking about 80-90 turrets on this thing so organization was key) at one point with no ill effects.  I have no idea why there is a need for "missile turrets" aside from maybe being useful for organizing the entries.
