This game looks fairly interesting; maybe I should pick it up...

Nope, it's a whole building. I always found it annoying in Tiberian sun where you needed to buy a addon to be able to use the cannon. What i did like was the walls you could make to slow enemy's down and the firestorm wall was also usefull for a while. I think they should have put that back in generals.

I also got tired of doing that after a while. The game actually had a bug with this feature; if you placed some turret on a component tower that had taken damage, it instantly got healed to full health. :D

It was pretty useful if you were being attacked and had to build up defenses very quickly, since the component tower was usually attacked right after placement, and just as it went into the red mark, you placed the turret on it and it jumped back to full health. :D

Okay, how many people in this thread do I need to smack and inform that the concept of space-to-ground laser sats has been around for a long, long, long time?

Indeed...it was much closer to a reality when Regan announced the whole "StarWars" thing.  Particle beams, lasers, railguns, all the fancy sci-fi stuff.  Was very expensive tho.

In Generals, the Particle Cannon Uplink actually generates the beam, somehow its reflected back at the target.

I remember the Firestorm Wall for the GDI. Very useful in when someone launches those self destructing drones, chemical missile or nukes at your base. Timing is everything though. If you activate the wall at the right time, you will save energy and still interecept those things.

Yeah, there's nothing quite like a single-use gun for a saturation attack.:D

Personally, I'm in favor of the sort of weapon that wouldn't blow itself to plasma after one shot.

A10 cannons are fun... i wonder how we could fit them as a base defense... or at least stick'em to a hum-vee ;7

Stick an Avenger on a Humvee, it'll fly back 10 meters with one 3 second burst, I bet

If your talking rail guns or lasers, new versions of the technology initially researched are supposed to be mounted on ships at some point in the future.

Laser point defense and rail gun anti-ship rolls is a heck of alot more effective than a 6in gun and a couple of phalanx pods.

Lasers fine, it's reasonably likely that you could at some point get a laser in the hundreds of terawatts without blowing it out with an overcharge, but railguns are such a crappy design for a weapon that it's pretty much guaranteed that as a weapon they'll do more damage to whoever was shooting it than the target.

I mean, ****, the very design calls for running enough energy through the barrel to melt steel... and that's for a small one.
