Just got home from my friends house.  Had to borrow his LAN to test out Multiplayer for 'Starfighter'.  Once we got it working it was pretty cool, we came to the following conclusions...

#1)  The Multiplayer campaign that shipped with the MOD this afternoon is broken, just plain broken.  You can't play it, you can't use it, you can't do anything with it.  The replacement is being uploaded as I type this.  *sigh*  Sorry to everyone who was really looking forward to whupping your neigbor this evening, but it's really hard to test this crap in advance when the nearest LAN that I can freely use is 12 miles away from my house.

#2)  Lag sucks.  Make sure you're using your fastest computer to host or expect great misery to be heaped upon you.

#3)  The F-44 absolutely RULES!!!  ...way too much.  The chinese fighters really don't stand a chance in any real compitition against the American fighter.  So we tweaked the stats of the eastern fighters a bit so they are more than target practice.

#4) You can't change your fighters in the loadout screen.  For some reason that we couldn't determine, anytime you tried to change fighers the guy using the different plane would crash imediately after launch.  If anyone knows what's up I'd really appreciate some input.

#5)  Absolutely nothing feels better than talking smack after out-fighting three to one odds when you're in the inferior fightercraft

I'm still waiting for that new *.VP file to finish uploading so I guess I'll keep rambling.  While I was there I also picked up all of the voicework we've been doing.  I figure we're around one-quarter to one-half of the way finished with it.  What we've got done has been plugged into the campaign for your enjoyment.  Problem is, *.WAV files compress EXTREMELY poorly so my poor *.VP file jumped from around a meg to over 10 megs (!), this is AFTER compression!  I'm afraid that the voicework might get cut out of the main game, and offered as an add-on package for it (for those of you who don't want to download 60-megs worth of soundfiles   )

Not to mention that I don't really want to upload it either, this is taking forever and it isn't even the whole thing (@#$%!)

I know that this is slightly OT for this thread, but I'm at work with NOTHING to do and I feel like posting somthing, but starting a new thread seems like a bit of a waste.

This afternoon my buddy Travis ((the guy responsible for the concept art used to skin the fighters with) stopped by cause he needed help repairing his car (the muffler had fallen off the car the previous day!)

After we glued the new parts to the car, we had some time to kill before I had to leave for work so I decided to show him the latest stuff in the MOD.

He fought through missions 11 and 12 FAIRLY well (he really isn't very good in these types of games, heck he got his butt whupped in Wing Commander regularly).

  During mission 13 he formed up his withone of his flights and took off to nuke the corvettes that show up about three minutes into the mission.  At about 3000 meters out I saw a missile streak past his left wing and explode one of his wingmen, he ignored it and kept charging after the FSGs.  

I just knew this was going to be a trainwreck (something that's just terrible to behold, but you just can't stop watching).  A second later I watched as tracers lit past his right wing and tore another wingman to ribbons (in three seconds he has now lost half of the fighters with him).  At this point I screamed at him "FIGHTERS!  Travis, fighters!  Behind you!!!"

Finally he reacted, but it was too late.  right when he went to pull out I heard his missile threat indicator go off, from the tone I just knew that it was too close...

After watching his fighter tumble and explode in the death screen he looked up at me, blinked and said, "Damn, that's hard..."

The only thing I could think to say was, "You want to be the big badass hero...  then earn it."

Moral of this long, boring, overblown story:  Most games assume you're the big hero from the start and the whole rest of the game is designed around it, this one does not.  You are not Christopher Blaire from Wing Commander, you are not Alpha 1 from FS2, you aren't even Pludarc from Renegade Legion, you have to fly and fight smart.  It's extremely easy to kill things in this mod, but it works both ways.  Stay alert, stay alive.

Charding dosn't work - calling in reienforcements and telling them to attack the fighters while staying just behind the biggest ship does!!

Awww, c'mon LAW.  It is possible to play through the entire demo campaign as it is right now.  It's not easy, but it is possible

Although to be fair, I've managed to get back in touch with some of my old staff and thier playtesting through the campaign right now.  Already we've found three of the scenarios that need changes done to them.  Two involving adding some additional scripts for clues to what you're supposed to do in the scenario and one that had one too many flights of enemy fighters in it.  I'm sure there will be additionaly changes before they're done picking over it.  I'll release the revised one as build three
