I have not a clue what inspired this, only that it wasn't the obvious. Freaky, though, and kinda fun to light.

That's a big parking lot.

Saw a parking lot kinda about that size once Was for the Dow Chemical Plant. When night-shift ends they have cars stretching all the way from the plant to the highway, and it's a LONG stretch to the plant.

Actually the nightmare would be trying to park in this lot. The rows are too close together, you`d have a nightmare trying to turn into a space if there were cars on either side and behind you.

Also you couldn`t get past if another car came in the other direction.

All in all this is a very subtle view of hell :D

Actually that's a kind of a sad render. Think of being alone in there, in the middle of the night. Sad, isn't it.

Then of course, I am tired, stressed, and melanholic as hell atm.

Make 3 of the spaces Disabled and park a car diagonally across them. Then it'll be ironic and funny as well as spooky.

Or maybe a single man cycling through the lot.

And the lights are in the middle of spaces.

Seeing as the parking lot is effectively infinite (computer got crashy at around 7000 streetlights, granted, but the tex is on an infinite-scaled plane), I'd be impressed to see a bigger one.

And blah. That's what parking lots look like around here. Maybe your area is more adapted for the SUV Age, or maybe parking lot design is as crappy as city planning around here. You people are too literal.

How does anyone park? Seriously the row is actually narrower than the width of the parking space. You wouldn`t actually be able to park a car if all the surrounding spaces were full.

Like I said, great if you`re trying to subtly show an image of hell (can you imagine all the arguements when people try to park in this place?) but not so good if you`re trying to model a real parking lot.

no matter how I look at the pic, I see a very definite limit to it. I stop at streetlights, and you don't see the ground further away, so :ick

Venom's right. Add a hazy glow on the horizon.

Kara: The mechanics of parking lots honestly couldn't interest me less. It's a parking lot. A big, nasty, depressing one. If you want to get out the measuring tape, that's fine, but don't bother me with it.

Venom: You don't see the ground because there's no light because there's no streetlights, duh. It's there, you just have to squint to see it and I burned a lot of it out to let the lit part and the unlit part blend better. Though I might add a haze to cover it up, if I ever bother with this any more, 's a good idea. I'd actually thought of that, but decided for some reason that if I was going to do that, I had to have volumetric lighting for the fog, too, and this image sucks with volumetrics. And I had to composite the pic as it is, so it was REALLY bad.

'Tis the All-New Americanized Afghanistan!

Seriously, it has really cool potential. I'd add a single parked car somewhere off-center - just a standard worker-bee car, nothing fancy. And perhaps Mr. Worker-Bee himself on the other side of the pic, walking towards it.

Title it something like "I Hate Overtime". :D

Reality nitpicks would be to lessen the number of streetlights to perhaps 2/3rds or even half. Make them about 1.5 times as tall, and increase the glow radius so that there is a definite dark spot in between lights.

As others said, widen the spaces in between rows a bit, but also seperate the facing parking spots into two, with a pedestrian-sized gap in between them. That's where the light poles can go.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill
