As I said, under XP and with 128Mb RAM on my old Pentium II (which was a 400 running at 496) it wasn't slow at all.

Funny, that's exactly what I mean, yet I don't have those options. What ver are you using? I have 9.00.00.2980.

EDIT: Correction: I have those options in Full mode, but not in skin mode.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

2000 is typical half-finished Microsoft garbage. Microsoft made what is possibly the worst mistake they could ever make in releasing it. It's not as bad as the mistake made in releasing 98 (2000 is NT based after all) but still pretty bad. A large proportion of what they promised was never fully implemented and half-heartedly covered up. It'd be like buying a car without stuff like a radio, air-conditioning, power steering and whatnot yet still being able to clearly see where they were supposed to go. If 2000 was anywhere near as good as it was supposed to be then Windows ME would never have been released, it never would have been necessary. XP is the OS Microsoft promised when they announced 2000 and the one they should have released instead even if it meant delaying the release of the product for another year. I'll never regret getting rid of 2000 and will never install it, or any of its variants, on any of my systems ever again.

Ah, I don't use skin mode, too much functionality is lost and I have to keep switching between full- and skin mode to get it back so it just isn't worth it.

My personal record:

WinXP Pro - Three crashes in one year of use

Win98 - Half a dozen crashes in one evening of use

Do the maths :)

What if we like crashes? The risqué on-the-edge you-know-you're-using-a-microsoft-product syndrome. I like it ^_^ I see no real reason to upgrade from 98SE, it runs everything I need fine, crashes are usually related to me doing something that a normal user wouldn't dream of doing anyway :) Sure, I hate it, but only in the same way I hate any MS product.

I didn't like the "video support" in wa3, since it violently took over all video playback, cuz I was to lazy to uncheck the microscopic box. the playback of it was also choppy. so I uninstalled that resource hog. I've got some version of winamp 2 now. I use it to play teh music.

I prefer a setup like this:

win98se to mainly play old games
win2k for general gaming + graphics
debian for actual work (now the work if mostly done on the laptop though)

If you like. All of my games work on XP bar C&C Win95... but then you'd expect that :)

That said, even C&C Win95 will run perfectly on XP with a patch - the only problem is the patch disables LAN play for some reason. So now I've got a double boot purely for C&C's benefit :D
