Iceni question - story nerdish thing
From what I can tell the NTF Iceni was actually the prototype for a class of frigates of this type.  It bears several style elements from the newer GTA ships.  Boshe obtained it from the shipyard at the outset of the rebellion.

As the ship was certainly a decent combat vessel, would it be safe to assume the GTA would put the design into production?

Bosch didn't just obtain it, he oversaw it's construction as well. Also, I believe it wasn't finished when the rebellion started, but was completed inside the asteroid base you see in mission 2 of the main campaign. So while the design is sound, it's unlikely to be put into production without him around to tell them how as it wasn't really built by the GTVA.

Iceni question - story nerdish thing
I`ve not tried it but I seem to remember hearing that it gets owned if it ever comes up against even a Deimos. If that is the case then it's pretty unlikely the GTVA would build it (Just simply build more corvettes instead).
If it can beat a Deimos 1 on 1 the situation becomes more complicated.

1) The Iceni was most likely not a stolen design. I`d say that it seems more likely that it was designed by Bosch (or his people) from information Bosch had about other new ships (as an admiral Bosch would have had access to fairly high level material).

2) If it's not a GTVA design the question is do they have access to the blueprints? Again it's probable that they were in the main computer on the Iceni and were destroyed when it blew up.

It's like this - Bosch needed a ship suitable for his nefarious NTF and ETAK scheemes. Now, the Iceni was built by the GTVA, under Bosch's guidance because at the time he was one of the Alliance's greatest leaders. We'll never know exactly how much of the design was GTVA and how much was Bosch, or whether it was supposed to be a prototype or a one-off... in any case Bosch nicked it as he had been planning all along.

Interestingly, the Derelict campaign suggests that the GTVI allowed the Iceni to escape in order to evaluate its performence... then during Derelict the Saphah-class Cypher turns up... interesting, no?

I agree with Geezer on this one. Iceni was highly customized with all the ETAK stuff on board, though the basic chassis might be used in the future.

And as far as fighting a Deimos is concerned... Deimoses can't really stand up to 3 BGreens.

The Iceni is a real sweet ship.
It creams a Diemos in a normal fight.

Acquire Target : tEAbAG. Commence Plasma Core Insertion. Beam-Free-All. FIRE!

Welcome to HLP. There are exits to the left and rear. Do not attempt to use them. Under your seat you will find empty beer cans, cookie crumbs, dog eared dungeon Porn mags left by Shrike... oh, and a Flamethrower. Unfortunately, we're out of napalm, so you'll have to bludgeon people to death with them.

In the event of serious conflict, there are plasma rifles in the forward locker, though these can only be opened by an Admin, [V], God, or Hyperintelligent shade of the colour Blue. If, for whatever reason, you find yourself crawling around in the ductwork, there's a better than average chance you'll encounter a Shivan. They're easy to spot with the five legs and all. If you're lucky, it's just Carl, who responds well to food rewards. If not, then at least you die quickly. Be aware that the entrance to the main control room is guarded by subspatial claymore mines.

If you type "you", and it comes out "we", or you see russian letters, blame the admins. April Fools comes only once a year, but they make it last a long time.

Have a nice day.

Yeah, it easily takes out a Deimos. But a single bomber can kill it given enough time, it has just as bad anti-fighter capabilities as an Orion

I think Derelict got it right with the Cypher - it was a specops ship reserved for special situations. The original Iceni was supposed to be a more than average ship because it's heavy armour plating.
In Derelict it's used in a good fashion it jumps in - gives a killing blow to any s****er fooling around with GTVI than leaves the battle.

Iceni question - story nerdish thing
The Iceni I think was a primarily Bosch design using the latest in GTVA construction.  Remember that it seems to have been constructed inside (or moved into?) an asteroid that broke apart allowing Bosch to escape.  So whatever the case, Bosch seemed to know exactly what he needed the ship for.

Indeed, it seems like he put it all together for the purposes of testing and deploying ETAK.
