beams changed to turret lasers?
okay, first thing's first

*Fire Control, target myself.  Warm up the beam.  And... FIRE!*

My exits are to the sides and rear.  Personal flamethrowers are located beneath my seat in case of emergency or naughty disposition.  If I run into any Shivans while crawling through the ductwork, it's probably just Carl.  I'll give him my lunch, back away slowly, and i'll be fine.

there, now that i'm welcomed i can get to the point...

okay, i had this mission I was playing with FS2 Open V3.5.1, in this mission i used the new "Beams freed by default" flag and it worked fine.  I had 2 Aeolus class cruisers in the level, and I had changed both of the forward SGreens on both ships to be Ultra AAAs.  That also worked fine... but at some point in the mission, i noticed the Aeoluses were no longer firing those Ultra AAAs, i thought maybe the turrets had been destroyed, so i checked and... they were firing boring ol Terran Turret lasers now!  So, at the start of the mission they fire Ultra AAAs, then somewhere somehow they just switch to Turret Lasers.  Anyone have any ideas on why this happened?  i've never seen anything like this before.  kinda weird

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

beams changed to turret lasers?
actually... the mission has no SEXPs.  it's really just a simple mission i use to test out any mods I make or download.  Just a big skirmish mission, no objectives, no events, no breifing, just fly around and shoot everything until all hostiles are dead, then jump out.  It's not the mission i'm concerned about, just the fact that the ships suddenly decided to switch weapons.  i mean... what were the crews thinking?!  "We have 2 of the best anti-fighter beams known to date installed in this ship, captain!"  Hillbilly captain responds, "I dun like them darn fangled new contraptions, get as some good-ol fashioned turret lasers in place instead"  ...
