Actually it is a render. :p
It doesn't have to be done in LW max etc to be a render. It is still 3d so it qualifies as a render. It has all the necessery elements of a render. A 3d object, background and effects. :p

Umm - just out of curiosity, what is the point of cloaking a six Km slow moving ship? There must be dozens of better poential choices for cloak - why the Sath?

well for one thing, imagine you're piloting a perseus out in the middle of god-knows-where and a sath suddenly 'materelises' right in front of you.... some pants-changing would then be required :p

Yeah, laying traps would be the most effective use... think about it, the GTVA spots a Shivan convoy or something moving from place to place - sends out a taskforce to eliminate it. Wham, Sathanas nukes it all and vanishes before they can get word back.

Come to think about it, didn't one of the SSDs in the Rogue Squadron novels have a cloaking device?

Yeah it was the Nightcloak system on The Ironfist, Warlod Zsinj's flagship. IIRC they killed it above Dathomir or got close to it. Haven't read those for a few years.
