It's not memory you have to worry about with Flash, it's CPU usage. The Flash player has a nasty tendency to grab every bit of CPU power it can and cause even reasonably high-end systems to start chugging along. I tried using a Flash movie as a background once for kicks but had to get rid of it after only a few minutes because my system became almost unusable while it was running. That, and the fact that using Web content on the XP desktop causes the ugly patches of desktop colour to reappear behind the icon titles, a feature I'd been waiting years to be made the Windows default and wasn't going to give up lightly.
