I have removed every trace of the ATi drivers, and are using the onboard GFX card. I can use the machine perfectly well like this, but all my games run crap.

Are you saying that I am to install the ATi drivers before I physically install the card?

No, i'm saying you are most likely having problems with your registry, you might want to look at the ENUM section, there are most likely still entries left of the ATI drivers.

If you can boot using the standard PCI gfx driver, that means that windows itself is still in a (by M$'s norms) fixable form.

Also, you might want to check the contents of ntkern.vxd, this is a combined file with all sorts of other vxd's in it, and there might be an older ATI vxd in that.

But I ahve used regcleaner, andhave removed all references to ATi from the registry. AFAIK.
