The newer versions of FS2Open have built-in anti-aliasing without dissapearing stars.

Disabling FSAA does not get rid of the FS1 problem of disapearing stars.  I tried every typical way to try and fix that problem and it will not be fixed.  Accept it and move on :)

Skimming is bad, mmk?

See, FS1 doesn't require a 3D accelerator.  You can actually play it on an old archaic 2D card, whereas FS2 *requires* a 3D accelerator.

Do you see a 2 there?  I am right, you are wrong.  Live with it.

1) Why did you bump a pretty much dead topic?

2) Why did you bump a dead topic to be WRONG!

Look again karajorma.

um isn't your 3d card supposed to be "detected" when you click the "detect" buuton in the launcher setup tab??

I have a geForce II mx, but it won't be detecetd.......

See, his problem was that neither game would detect his card.

You CANNOT play Freespace2 without a 3D accelerator.  Why the frell do you think it says "3D Accelerator Required" on the front of the box if you didn't need one? (I still have the box if you don't believe me.)

Are you just incapable of admiting you're wrong Vertigo?

At least you now realise that the problem was affecting both games rather than continuing the stupidity of arguing that it was an FS1 only problem.

As for needing a graphics card to play FS2 I suggest again that you look at the thread.

I ask again. Why did you bump this thread just to prove your wrongness?

Unless you're running a DVD-ROM.  See, theres a glitch in all the later drivers that pretty much forbids you from playing any DVDs.  Every software available will error out with something along the lines of either it not liking you having a TV-out function on your video card, or it *****es about your software copyright protection finding an error.

I wasn't argueing that it was a FS1 only problem you nitwit!  I proved time and time again that FS1 doesn't require a 3D accelerator (ie: his mentioning that it looks better with REAL graphics, ie: in 3D mode).

Thats a direct quote from the box. (yes, I kept that one too!  I'm like a hermit crab when it comes to this stuff! :p)

At the time, the thread was marked as "new replies" since I hadn't visited this board in a while. (I do have other things that are more important than this board after all....like college graduation!)  Why can't you just admit you mis-read the damn post already?

You're just embarrassing yourself now. Did I ever say you needed a graphics card to play FS1? Find me where I said that? I know damn well that FS1 doesn't require a 3D graphics card and never said anything to the contrary.

I don't know why you even bothered to post that. As I've already posted I know that FS2 requires hardware acceleration. I even quoted my earlier post to prove that I knew that. I really don't see what point you're failing to make here.

Cause I didn't. Oddly enough Shiva-jin Buu appears to have edited the original statement in my support but even the original is at it's worst ambiguous and at best completely supporting my side of the agruement.

Shiva-jin Buu believed (wrongly) that FS1 & 2 wasn't detecting his graphics card because previously he had played on Glide which shows a different name in the Currently Selected Video Mode box. I solved his problem.
He had a couple of other problems and I helped (with others) to solve that one too.
The thread should have ended there. What I don't understand is why you're embarrassing yourself trying to disprove a point I didn't even make?
