How do I add music to FS2?
Hey everyone,

I currently have a professional music group that is metallica/van halen/creed sounding interested in doing music for my campaigne and I am ready to begin adding some of the cool effects into it and I need to contact them as soon as possible. I was wondering if anyone here could tell me what files to extract and could give me some links to where I can download the tools to extract the exact table files I need to make these things possible. So, doese anyone know what files and tools I need to add custom full songs to Freespace 2? What are the files I'm looking for and where are the tools? Please help me out if you can. This should be my last problem to solve for my campaigne.

How do I add music to FS2?
This should theoretically work. However, I tried it and FS2 simply quit when it tried to access the music file I replaced:

First, get VPVIEW from  http://www.descent-network.com/cgi-bin/descman.cgi?module=vpview .
Second, install VPView and open it
Third, select Open, browse to your FS2 Directory, and open the file warble_fs2.vp
Fourth, create a new folder in your Freespace 2 directory called "music".
Fifth, open the Music folder, select all the files in it, and click "Extract to Dir..." and select the new "music" directory. Now, all the FS2 files are in that directory as wav files.
Sixth, replace the files you want to have be different by deleting a file with that name and moving the new file to the folder and renaming it to the old file
However, it might work if you edited the music.tbl file (you'd have to extract this to Freespace2/data/tables) so that the actual name of the file name was changed. I'm not sure, so is there someone else who can help here?

I don't think that would work. The music TBL file contains pretty exact data about where each bit of music ends, so replacing their files would likely result in long pauses or cut-offs. You need to edit the TBL itself, though I think there are severe limitations on what you can add (1 more mission music scheme, I think).
