There is something I find interesting:

I counted the missions act both in FreeSpace 1 and 2. The result was quite strange: the campaigns of both games consist of 29 main missions(Training, and SoC not included in this 29). Regardless both has the same mission number, FS2 appears to be FAR longer than FS1. I find this interesting because I can complete the Great War over a day if I have mood to do that, but FS2 can take three or four days to me.

I don't know why I write this down here, but that is one of many things I find interesing in the world of FreeSpace.

Perhaps the individual missions are shorter in FS1

Mission Exodus: Takes at least 15 minutes to be completed. And there are some which need at least 10 minutes too, like the shield prototype escort(Hammer and Anvil?) and the mission where player flies the Dragon(Playing Judas) etc.

FS2 has no quite long missions.

makes sense that FS2 would be faster, because beams travel faster than and do more damage than the turrets that fly across space... but yeah, i beat FS1 in 7 hours, and FS2 takes several days, mainly because you are more apt to die in FS2 because of beams and such...

ah, but you are wrong. FS2 mission average time to complete is 10 minutes. Most of them take at least 7. FS1, has a large number of 3-5 minute misssions.
