Gee, what do you think I've been using? Maybe a parrot? A banana?

Oh, here's a shoe! That's like a search engine, right?

Don't condescend to me, boy, especially when you don't know what you're talking about. I used Google and Copernic under half a dozen different sets of keywords, all that's there are manuals and half-assed models.

The operative word being buy here. Security systems get an unfair advantage on this machine.

Checked. Same. I'm starting to suspect Discreet has a no-resale clause in there, and nobody's aware that those things are invalid.

In other words, if you have a warez version of the thing, I probably have it too, and it don't done work. Didn't recognize any Titan keygen codes after the second reinstall, can't modify important system files on my account, etc.

Besides which, it's a pain in the ass to not be able to get support or some of those self-installing plugins. For some reason, these twits always decide it's more convenient for everyone to download a self-installer that will only work, maybe, on a freshly-installed full copy of MAX that hasn't even been so much as used yet.

actually, owners of older max replace it with the new one, for cheaper than if they bought it directly. I suppose acquiring the max5 license invalidates the max4 one.

What, you mean trade-ins?

****, that's inefficient. And irritating- specifically since the only reason to do it would be to make sure that you can't resell software you bought from 'em.

Bah, guess I'll have to wait 'till the security systems come down on here, then...

So you have all of the illegal ones, but they don't work, so if someone happened to have one that did work, would that be sufficient, or do you want to buy one?

well, actually, newtek and alias/wavefront do the same.
when a prog costs so much, and when usually you buy a dozen licenses at the same time, customers are happy to save even 200$ on each license...

Bob: Whatever. I kinda need the program if I'm gonna sell my models, because, honestly, NOBODY uses .RDS format, and the conversions are a little... iffy. They need correcting, most of the time. Unfortunately, they have deemed it best to make it fuckin' impossible to do so. So at this point, I'm saying **** 'em. If there's a good, say $500 copy of MAX 3 or something sitting around somewhere, I'd definitely go for that, but I'm not about to get all prudish about warez all of a sudden. I just want something that works. ****, right now I can't even get people to look at my stuff for free. I'd use Lightwave (cheaper, corporation's far less evil), but I'm about as useful at it as a spastic gibbon- I can't even ****in' texture in it, so conversions to .lwo are definitely out.

Venom: But you see old copies of Lightwave around all the time- I don't think they actively collect the old copies. They're actually an option for those who can't afford some obscenely expensive but fancy new version. Hell, all software has upgrades, but you'll find old copies of Photoshop and Lightwave and the like sitting around for a fraction the price of a new version.

yes, I know, but there, you don't really buy the copy, you buy the license. either those LW copies are from people who ditched LW for another program, either I think they're ilegal...

It's the internet. What isn't at least a little illegal?

But, ah, dunno. There sure seem to be a lot, though, at least relative to copies of MAX. I have a hard time believing Discreet's customers would be 100% more law-abiding than NewTek's, particularly when the first company is so much more tempting to steal from. I mean, really, watching that cDilla **** get put on my computer was like watching my computer get probed by a giant, slimy tongue. Awful. Never mind the thinly veiled threats in practically every piece of text they ever write. Forget Microsoft, those guys creep me out.
