I'm working on a model for Ace. I'm wondering if anyone can point me to some sources of Vasudan capship design philosophy and/or some good renders that show other Vasudan capships from multiple angles? Of particular interest is the engine sections of the ships.

Thanks, gang.

well, the fs1 and fs2 vp files, where all the pofs are stored
plus you can find some concept pics too. Otherwise, I have some vasudan capship concept pics in my forum, in I don't remember which thread.

I haven't the foggiest clue how to extract the pofs from the FS1 and FS2 files. Heck, I'd have dig the discs out of where ever they've been squirrelled by my wife. Concept art would be excellent if you have some pointers. And, as I said, the engine sections would be of the most help, as I can't remember anything about how the Vasudans do them.

I also took a look at your concept pics, Venom. Its in the fighter thread. Some of those are fabulous. Of the Capships, the Frigate design is the one that left the largest impression on me, but was a touch radical for what I'm after.

Heh, what vadar says. Everything you need to know about Vasudan design, right in there.

Actually, Artimus did a Vasudan ship construction guidelines list, but I think he lost it.

I just thought of something, the Mon-Calamari (sp?) cruiser from star wars resembles something like the typhoon, so maybe the calamari have the same "Philosophy". Theres usually some star wars nerd out their who made up some sh*t about anything related to star wars, so id look over the net for something like that, a more "in-depth" version of the "Philosophy". Or just make your own, its just a game.

I'm hoping to get something in the style of the Aten, a "mediterranean look" as Shrike said about the Inferno forum   With both of the sides being symmetrical, but the top and bottom sections vastly different.

But really with Vasudan ships, use VPview 32 to analyze the texture maps of the various ships, it should give a good idea of their structure. (yes, the texturemaps, not just the model)

Ace, I wish you were around.   I'd show you what I've got so far. I've been looking at the Selket as a guide (it happens to display X-symmetry but not Y- or Z-symmetry). This mesh displays the same basic shape, but is definately distinct. I'm going for a two section design (forward symmetric sections with a single aft section) with some sort of connection between the parts.

Vadar, you say "Its just a game", but taht's part of the problem. It is just a game, but its not my game. Its mine and yours and every other player's game. All those players will be looking at the ship design and wondering why someone textured a Terran ship to look Vasudan (for example). Vasudan ships look a certain way. Terran ships look a certain way. Departing radically from that without a bloody good reason takes a part of the game away from the players, IMHO. It is, therefore, very important to me to get these engines to look like   Vasudans would have designed them.

I know I think too much about these things, but its all a part of the way my brain works and thus a part of the way I work on the mesh.

the engines of vasudan ships vary dramaticly from ship to ship, some are simple humps with a glow point on the end others are complaex peices of geometry with all sorts of bafels and hardware running through a flury of glows, it is ends up looking a little too tarren then just say it used some tarren technology (or redo it)

Please, just to humor me, say Terran, not tarren, unless tarren is some race that ive overlooked, in which case, my apologies

The Hatshepsut is the Vasudan 'shovel-head' capship, if I remember correctly. Apparently named when a Vasudan sneezed.

Judging by another thread here, it is also the single most screwed up production ship in FS2.

hehe, actually I know what the ship is (lol I started the other thread), but I have seen it spelled as "atshepstu" quite a few times. Is this some inside joke among the HLP forum members?

That's what I get for not looking. If its not an injoke now, it will be by the end of this thread.
