this guy's been emailing me for the last few weeks, and i've been keeping him on a string, which i hate doing, but anyway, the story is something about how he can't access files on his CD (i'm guessing it's because it's damaged or something) and to play Freespace 1 he needs the following files:

Quote

the files that i need are

  name                      size in bytes

freesp~1.ex_           1937408
FreeSpaceAutoRun.exe   91136
FreeSpaceAutoRun.ico   3310
setup.exe              59904
setup.ini              75
_inst32i.ex_           320133
_isdel.exe             8192
_setup.dll             11264
_sys1.cab              210528
_user1.cab             255758
data1.cab              6120
fred.ex_               2741760
freespace.ex_          1936896
fs.ex_                 2184704
lang.dat               4557
layout.bin             353
setup.bmp              74400
setup.ins              59663

folders that i could not access-

i'm thinking this is legit, and not warez, because you can't play the game with just those files, so it's not like he's asking me to send him the whole CD or something.  now i was expecting to get my DSL back, but it hasn't happened yet, and i feel sorry for the guy, so if anyone would like to help me (and ultimately him) out here, and upload some stuff to a folder (via FTP), i'd appreciate it and he'd appreciate it even more :)

anyone?

first of all, the way he got in contact with me was through here.  but because you guys crack down on anything remotely illegal/warez, he was too scared to post anything... so he contacted me.  i don't know why, but i intend to help him.

second, he already has FS2.

Actually that is a valid comment even though the problem is with FS1.
As far as I know none of those files are ones you need for the FSPort which suggests for some reason he doesn't want to play the port or can't. Which also suggests the guy might not have FS2 either.

Stryke did what i'd expected most of you to do... offer to help without probing with questions and "other ways" of doing it.

Thanks a lot Stryke, you've just been raised on my level of expectations
